Which model? Simply take the unit out of the box, mount it, plug in the power cord and turn it on. That is all that you need to do. remember this unit is a RADAR detector and not a POLICE detector. The officers have to be transmitting to have the unit pick anything up.

There should be a DARK/DIM button. it could be combined with the power button ( PWR/DARK). if combined simply press and hold the button to change the display brightness settings.

Model CR90 is not a battery powered radar detector. It requires 12 volts and comes with a power outlet power cord.

All Whistler radar detectors operate on 12 volts center pin positive. All Whistler radar detector's power cord include a 2 amp fuse.

Both are ok and both perform about the same. The 1730 is the newer of the two. Newer units will pick up further however.

Make sure that all the buttons move freely. Its possible that the Quiet button is stuck.
