The MP3 player does not have the ability to unzip files. You'll have to unzip them using your computer first and send the individual MP3 files to the player from your computer.

Oh dear this hard drive is not working

To fix, you will need the following 2 links and Windows Media Player 10 (WMP 11 is not compatible with the VM-500)

http://a.b.vcdz.free.fr/vcdz/Virgin_Player_5gb_VM-500_setup.rar
http://a.b.vcdz.free.fr/vcdz/PP5020.MI4

The first link is a zip file2_bing.gif that contains the setup file for the VM-500 along with the user guide that explains how to resolve the "Oh dear! this player is a piece of junk" (okay, so I ad libbed). The 2nd link is for a critical file missing from the set up. The solution is basically 3 steps:
1) Plug in your VM-500 into your PC and right click to select "Properties" and then select "Format" to clear everything out of the device to start from scratch.
2) After downliading the zip file from the "setup" link above, unzip and run the setup.exe program on your PC. It will detect the VM-500, install the firmware and the system folder and subfolders.
3) Using the 2nd link above, download the file PP5050.mi4 to your PC and then copy it to the system folder (not the subfolders) in your VM-500.
That's it! Your VM-500 should be all fixed and should bring up the "device tour" tutorial. -Hank

I hadn't used my mp3

It will be good only...If it has a memory card separately connect it to a card reader and try to copy the songs that way from computer and check is it working..
If it is a internally built memory then reset the mp3 player..

By the way how long you didnt use it?

Please accept my solution if satisfied..

My mp3 player is not

Follow this steps and everything should work: 1.- format your player (right click --> format)
2.- download the player's files from HERE, and drag them into the player. (disconnect your mp3 player from the computer afterwards)
3.- download the music management software from HERE, and install the software, (for best results install the software after a fresh install of WMP10 or RealPlayer) note: always reboot as promted
4.- Connect your player, open WMP10 go to Sync and start using your player.
here's a very useful tip: after synchronizing your music, open your player and browse musicsystemdata (this folders are hidden by default) you should see 15 files, copy them and save them in your PC and/or create a new folder in your player and save them there. Now whenever your player have some problem not playing your mp3, replace those files in systemdata with the files you save, this will restore your player settings without having to format.

How to load songs on to it?

If the player is MSD (Mass Storage Device) compatible, then a drive should show up in My Computer when you plug it in. Simply copy your songs to this location.

If the player is not MSD compatible, you must use the software that came with the player.

Virgin player is not working because it needs firmware!!! please look at this.

Just a small correction to the above: MediaMonkey does not have a worm or virus in the installer. It's certified by both download.com and softpedia as virus free, and as Release Manager for MediaMonkey, I can vouch for the fact that it is scanned prior to every release.
