Sorry Richard, Sounds like you are correct, you bought the wrong type of pump...if your looking for pressure/output you might consider purchasing a "sprinkler pump"...they will go past 70psi and morePlease take time to rate meBud

A shallow well pump needs to be primed. On the bottom of the well above the sandpoint there should be a foot valve (check valve) installed. On the top of the pump there is a fill cap. Fill the pump until it is filled to the top. I Replace the fill cap and start the pump. If there is air remaining in the well attempt a second time. If the pump can not be filled it would indicate that the check valve is not working\ or the water level in the well is low. Hope this helps?

It sounds like the pump is oversized and is short cycling because it pumps down too quickly. I recommend a much wider pit, or a 1/4 hp pump.

Your well could be dry, your screen could be clogged, you could have a major suction leak, your press switch could be bad, or your impeller could be broke. If you are getting water, I'd say that your press switch is faulty.

Look on the id plate on the motor, and inside the cover on the back and inside the switch cover.

If it is just the plug to close a hole, a standard pipe plug from a hardware store will fit. Measure the hole and ask the store clerk to help. They are very inexpensive, so if you get sizes close to your measurement you should be able to get the right one. Be sure not to cross thread (put in at a bad angle and use pipe sealing tape).

How about where you bought pump? Utilitech is a lowes brand, isn't it?

There are a few things that could cause this problem to come up. Pretty much all of them do require taking the sump pump apart a bit though. I would suggest having a professional come to help you if you don't have much experience with this kind of work.
