I believe with Direct TV (and with AT&T Uverse) one must use the company's receiver (which comes with a monthly rental fee.)
Did you call Direct TV Technical Support and state your problem?

You will need to have your Direct TV account number and possibly another ID number handy for when you speak with a Technical Support Representative.

For AT&T Uverse you will need to have your account number and an ID number handy.
We have AT&T Uverse for TV, telephone, and Internet service. I know that with AT&T Uverse one MUST have a company provided TV services receiver (which has a monthly rental free.)

Screen blacks out on KVM
I have had this happen to me a few times. Usually it is the video card/driver. By KVM I assume you mean a KVM switch that goes to both computers, so you can switch between them? I have had trouble with them, too, so try putting the VGA straight to the monitor and see.

Reset router.
The default username is admin and the password is password.
