My tomtom 700hdx comes up with fatal error and shuts down

There should be a small hole in the rear of the unit. if you gently push a straightened paperclip into the hole and hold it until it resets, you might be in luck

WILL I LOSE DATA WHEN FITTING NEW BATTERY IN MY TOTOM 910

Tomtoms store data in a non volatile format, either to an SD card, Flash memory or to a hard drive, none of the above require a battery backup. If the battery is removed the only data that should be lost is the time and date

My Tomtom 910 is having charging issues.

Hi Evan,

The rubber bungs often come out but it doesnt usually effect the charging although the rubber bung is there to help reduce vibration when used with a mount in a car. I have had many 910's here in the past with the bungs missing but never had any problem with them latching into the mount. I would think your problem is either some other plastic part is worn or broken. However , if you feel that the problem is the bung then I would go with your instinct but you might have to find something else to fit in the hole as parts are not readly available for TomToms unless you buy a whole unit thats faulty to use as parts / spares. Im'e sure something could be made to fit possibly part of an eraser or similar rubber part. You might also be able to use a small rubber cable grommet or similar.
As far as I know , it isnt possible to get a virus on to the TomTom as such but it is possible to get corrupted data on the hard drive ( or SD card with other models ) especially if you download things such as voices etc. I have had TomToms here were owner has downloaded comic voices and the files have caused very strange things to happen with the TomTom. I even had one where a voice file was making it look like the screen was damaged , so , your'e correct in thinking that way. In your case though , I doubt if the dowloaded voices have effected the charging , its more likely the poorly fitting mount thats casuing your problems.
If you manage to get the green light on ( this only shows power is going to the TomTom , it does NOT confirm charging ) then leave it for a few hourse before attempting to turn the TomTom on as that will ensure a resonable amount of charge especially if you battery is very flat.

Hope this helps . ( please rate the above reply if you think its helpful in any way )

Good Luck
