Have you cleaned it lately with vinager? Sometimes you have to run it through it to remove the deposited from hard water. It happens to coffee makes an all appliances that use water. Find your instructions an follow what is recommended. If you don't have them you can look them up online.

junk it as it is shorting internally repair costs are more than new iron

In the USA our irons are now made in China, and the soleplate is not changeable, because they are made in factories by machines ( robots) and they are expected to be discarded when they break. No parts are available. I think you have an iron made in the U.K. or Ireland. I do not know what the availability is there, or the repair. God bless your efforts.

Chlorine/bleach - read carefull the instruktion on the back og the bottle. DO NOT USE IT without thinning it with water in the correct dosis! Let it rest til everything is dead. Dont get it in the machine it will be damaged. Do not boil it in the machine! only for use in the watertank. Clean carefully.

its a great iron no argument there de scaling products can only do so much even if using demin water or filtered water they dont last forever
