check that it is not in auto or timer mode

Check how you wired the resistor. The resistor controls the speed of the fan. If its wired wrong, you will get the wrong speeds and the resistor will get very hot. Its normal for them to get warm but not so hot they start to burn. There should be a wiring diagram somewhere on the stove so you can check and confirm if one or more of the wires have been put on back to front.

1. Open the oven door and remove the 2 screws at the side of the inner glass window 11cm above the hinges and lift off the door. Place it somewhere safe!
2. Remove the 4 screws that you can see nearest to the left and right edges of the oven with the door removed. These secure the oven to the kitchen unit.
3. Slide the oven forwards about 20cm out of the unit, being careful not to pull on the cable.
4. Each hinge is held in place by 2 screws at the side of the unit now exposed, about 18cm apart. Remove them and slide out the hinges. Reassembly is the reverse of the above.
5. Note that the hinges have no means of adjustment. If not working properly, renew them.

Customer Service Here are three things to try. First, on page 64 of the following manual link below, it discusses how to delete the data to the timer clock before turning off the oven. More about programming the clock precedes that but it looks like something you could try. Secondly, I have to wonder what would happen if you just unplugged the stove and left it unplugged for maybe a half hour. Maybe it would magically reset the function of concern. Lastly, you might consult the SMEG techarea below. If that gives no satisfaction, you may have to consult a SMEG technician.
