How/where was it stored? Are there buttons on the tv itself? Do you have any LED lights on at all? Does the tv make any clicking noises when you plug it in?

Likely power supply failure. Sometimes affecting the series of sets. Remove the back panel (unplugged, of course), locate the power supply which will be a separate block of components with larger, coarser parts. The parts most likely to fail (electrolytic capacitors) may be exposed enough to examine them. Look for cylindrical parts, usually 90 degrees from the board plane, with exposed aluminum that is scored, mostly in a "Y" pattern. Look for any whose tops are bulging or indeed split open along the score lines. This is about the only visible indication of failure, otherwise a special (LCR) meter will be needed for testing. If you find such parts, you might try emailing Sony to see if they have an exchange program on the supply; these are not tough to remove and replace. If not, try to find a local tech who will check the possible failed parts and replace them. If you go this route, tell them to add 0.1 to 0.47 microfarad (25-50VDC OK) ceramic caps (under the board) parallel to the replaced parts This will prevent renewed failure of the capacitors by bypassing the chemical caps for the high frequencies which causes them to fail.

You can always try a power reset on the TV, or a factory reset if the TV is able to be powered on to working condition. If the TV turns off a few seconds after being turned on and then the light blinks 14 times that likely means there is a power source issue of some kind within the TV.

Why are you using 4:3 letterbox? It might be the default aspect ratio but widescreen tvs should be set to 16:9 aspect ratio.

It's caused by the Bravia Sync feature. It doesn't always connect correctly. When there are issues then attempts to sync up cause the menu to appear. The solution is to switch off Bravia Sync. Go in to the TV's set-up menu, and choose HDMI Set-up. Scroll down the menu list and choose Control for HDMI, then set the menu option to OFF Let us know if that fixes the problem for you.
