TRV260 nail-polish head attack:
eek.
Acetone is a powerful solvent capable of dissolving plastic parts, plastic gears, housing and insulation.
Besides that, it leaves a residue of microscopic crystals which have probably contaminated the highly-polished metal head drum.
Not to mention gumming up the bushes and bearings.
With your next camera, rather use a head-cleaner DV-tape.
Sony DCR-HC48 tape mechanism won't close
DVC tape doors not closing:
The 'Big-Bang' theory of whacking the H__ out of the camcorder does often work, as I've done it myself.
However, there is also the risk of dislodging or mis-aligning other transport mechanisms.
Rather trying shaking the unit, less of a shock to the innards.
Also, the gearing & motor lube may have dried out over the years, causing drag.
You can hold the door shut, allowing the motor to complete its task, or use a cotton ear-bud "Q-tip" sprayed with a light-weight lube, touched sparingly on gears.

Deleting files from the Sony HDR-SR1 Camcorder Hard Drive
hi Dstein556.As long as the files are related to the films and any other files you have saved, then yes you can.but if you are still not happy to do this then just delete mts files first and check to make sure all is well,if so then delete the cpi files.again if your still not sure then, then just copy the files mts cpi to a disc.then when you have done that.if anything goes wrong you can put the files back if needed.or if you have enough space with leaving the mts and the cpi files on there then just leave them there.but what ever you do will be at your own risk.
