My oven makes a huge whirring buzzing noise after 20/30 minutes of use. I replaced the cooling fan motor but that has not helped. Surely this is not normal?

It sounds like you're experiencing an issue with your SMEG DS96MFA7 oven where a noise occurs after some time of operation and continues even after the oven is turned off. Since you've already replaced the cooling fan and the noise persists, there are a few possibilities to consider:
  1. Heating Element: The heating element in your oven might be expanding and contracting as it heats up and cools down during operation. This can sometimes create noises, especially if the element has developed some internal damage.
  2. Cooling Fan Motor: While you've replaced the cooling fan, it's possible that the noise is coming from a different part of the fan assembly or from the fan motor itself. The noise might be due to vibrations, a misaligned part, or a problem with the motor bearings.
  3. Exhaust Fan or Circulation Fan: Some ovens have additional fans for exhaust or circulation purposes. If your oven has these fans, they might be causing the noise. Check if there are any additional fans present and inspect them for any issues.
  4. Expansion and Contraction: As the oven heats up during use and then cools down after being turned off, various components inside the oven can expand and contract. This can sometimes result in creaking or popping noises. This could include metal components, panels, or other parts.
  5. Loose or Vibrating Components: Check for any loose or vibrating components within the oven. Even a small loose panel or part can generate a significant amount of noise, especially as it vibrates against other surfaces.
  6. Gas Ignition System: If your oven uses gas, the ignition system could be causing clicking or ticking noises as it ignites and heats up.
  7. Electrical Components: Certain electrical components, such as relays or transformers, could also be causing the noise if they are malfunctioning or vibrating excessively.
Since diagnosing the exact source of the noise can be challenging, especially without being able to inspect the oven in person, I recommend the following steps:
  1. Carefully Inspect: When the noise occurs, try to pinpoint its source by listening closely and observing the oven's components. This might give you a better idea of where the noise is coming from.
  2. Contact Professional Help: If the noise persists and is affecting the functionality of the oven, it's advisable to contact a professional appliance repair technician. They have the expertise and tools to diagnose and fix the issue accurately.

Good Morning, I have a Smeg SUK91MFX and the fan oven does not heat up.

Hello Ron, If you have already replaced the thermostat unit and both heating elements, and the indicator light is coming on and the fans are running, but the oven is still not heating up, here are some additional troubleshooting steps you could try:
  1. Check the wiring connections: Ensure that all wiring connections are secure and properly connected. Loose or faulty connections can prevent the oven from heating up.
  2. Check the oven control board: The control board regulates the power to the oven elements. If it is faulty, it may prevent the elements from heating up. You can test the control board using a multimeter or by having it professionally checked and repaired or replaced.
  3. Check the thermal fuse: Some ovens have a thermal fuse that protects the oven from overheating. If the thermal fuse has blown, it can prevent the oven from heating up. You can test the thermal fuse with a multimeter and replace it if necessary.
  4. Check the temperature sensor: The temperature sensor is responsible for monitoring the temperature inside the oven. If it is faulty, it may prevent the oven from heating up. You can test the temperature sensor with a multimeter and replace it if necessary.
If none of these steps resolves the issue, it may be best to contact a professional repair service or the manufacturer for further assistance.

I have a Smeg A42 oven which seems to be overheating, i.e. you set the temp to 200, but it appears to be much hotter. As a consequence everything is getting burned

First, check the temperature sensor probe in the oven (typically a small tube somewhere at the back or side. Make sure it is clean; a layer of burned-on gunk will reduce its sensitivity and could cause a lower temperature reading or delayed response. Check the owner's manual for cleaning instructions - some temperature sensors are rather delicate and can be damaged by bending or pulling. If that doesn't help, the temperature sensor or the controller has a problem and may need to be repaired or replaced.

Need help with diagnosis and repair of Smeg oven

It could be the switch, but also check for chaffed wiring where the wires pass close to or through metal. The vibration of the fan cause the insulation to wear through. The drive shaft connecting the motor to the fan blade on my smeg oven is a tapered fit. The fan does not have a clamping screw. What's the best way to secure the fan blade to the drive shaft?

Freeze the motor shaft and press the fan onto the shaft. As it warms up you get an interference fit.

Smeg SE399X/5 Stainless Steel Electric Single Oven - the oven light and the oven fan do not turn off - Both knobs off at 12 o'clock position - heat is off - just the light and fan continue to stay on.

When you go to bed tonight, turn off the power at the breaker, which will effect a power reset to the control board. If it does it next day you will need a service call. It is likely to be a control board issue and they are expensive, so correct diagnosis is good idea rather then the 'Let's try changing this' method of repair..

Smeg SA9065XS - Oven Display No Longer Working

Hello Andrew from another one :>D It sounds like you had a mains voltage issue whilst you were away. Disconnecting from the mains for 5 minutes will reset it. If that doesn't fix it, it's a Smeg, you will need a Service Call and probably a new control board.

My smeg self cleaning oven is 2yrs old , the enamel inside the oven seems to be coming off

This has happened to our smeg oven too, ours looks like scratches but we have never cooked anything on the base, always used the shelving/trays provided. Smeg have blamed us for the damage. Utterly disgusting. Will never buy smeg again.
