I THINK THERE IS NO POWER ADAPTER COMES WITH THIS DIVICE IT ACTUALLY PULLS IN POWER FROM USB U JUST NEED TO FIND THE POWEWR CABLE FROM THE USB .

Buy an external USB hub that has an AC power adapter. Your computer is not providing enough power to spin up the drive. A self powered hub will provide the necessary power. 7 Port USB 2 0 HUB AC Adapter Monoprice com

The original power supply is "SB2D-020-1HA SIMPLETECH AC ADAPTER 12V 1.5A FOR EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE" . Just find a replacement with the correct size plug (center positive) that supplies 12v DC at 1.5amps (1500ma)

USB - unplug then plug back in. then right click open check properties make sure you set "security" to read & wite & modify or FULL ACCESS.

You can try going in the add / remove and uninstalling the program, then go into devices and remove from there as well. Also go to the folder it is still listed in and find the uninstall there. Delete all those to your recycle bin. Reboot twice! Then on the 2nd reboot, plug the external in and make sure it has power and is turned on. See if it reappears again. select the ones in the same folder and highlight them with your mouse Hold down your cntrl key and right click the first image. I was having a problem on Windows 7 with the SimpleTech 160GB drive not being recognized, went to the SimpleTech site and could not find any drivers - Went to MajorGeeks and found a driver update program - watch when you install it, do custom install so as not to get new homepage or toolbar. But it scanned and found where my drivers were deficient. Updated driver and drive is now recognized

My Seagate 1TB started doing the same thing before it died. My brother managed to get it working again long enough for me to move all of the files to a Toshiba 1TB solid state external drive. A couple of nice features to the Toshiba are that there is no power adapter (powered by the USB), there are no moving parts, and it is very compact. I slid mine into the space under the laptop stand. You might want to back up all of your data to another location just in case yours is getting ready to die.

Not enough info..... Ask Simpletech. I Dont use simple tech brand but it usually is similar to other products. Most Hard Drive Boxes are connected to a Power Pak that goes into the AC wall outlet to drop the power down to low DC voltage. Most power pak's handle 110 & 220 ac these days. Read the tiny writing on the power pak label. It's usually marked as input & output. Good Luck

Yes you need new driver, but Driver Utility can't help you. I've used it before and I can tell this driverupdate us tool is x100 times better. Take a look and enjoy

Go to the local PC man and get it replaced. Simple if you know what to do and quick and cheap if you don't

Downloading a program or information for an external drive should not affect anything! Windows 8 is the latest operating system and does have many quirks about it, but nothing will be upgraded or updated without your permission. If you are still worried, I would advise you to learn as much about windows 8 as you possibly can. I am still learning this new operating system, but I prefer windows 7.
