Computer was on, screensaver is
Windows 8 especially and sometime Windows 10 may have a black screen during an update for over 15 minutes with no indication that anything is happening.
Try complete power down by holding the power key for 10 full seconds. Consider unplugging power for a few seconds after that as well.
Re-connect power, press power button to turn on the computer then if the screen goes blank, give it a half hour before looking for another solution... it may come back to you.
It only shows a display for about 1 second.
Get the specs for the connector online so you can see what the connection for each pin is then try testing for continuity (your gonna need a meter) so you can see if there are any interruptions in the circuit

LIGHT GONE IN SCREEN
With the unit turned on, turn off the lights and with a flash light shinning at the LCD screen, do you see any images ?
If so, the Back lights or inverter have gone south.
That is a cheap 17" unit and would not be worth the repair cost.

Open monitor and look at power supply board for capacitors which are "balooning" or deformed in any way. These look like cylindars on the board. These tend to dry out and make what you are describing occur. Replacing them usually fixes about 80% of the problem you are describing. Those parts run about $0.25 to $0.75 each.. well worth trying, right?
