Removing files from a dead lap top

If the computer is dead the only way to recover the files would be to remove the hdd & install it as a secondary hdd in another system in order to copy the files. After you are sure all your data is copied you could then either reformatt & keep as a storage drive in other system or remove. You'll need the proper cables as most laptop hdd's just slide into a built in port on the laptop's mb. Hope this helps.

I have a possible hard drive for my PC-GP22W.

Your best bet is to use a bootable cd and plug in a usb disk then copy from local hdd to usb.

There are several programs out there that will let you do this

Hirens bootable cd is a good one.
http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd

You basically burn the cd, put it into a pc with the image, plug in a usb stick and go to file explorer and copy the files from the hdd to usb stick

Sharp actius mp30 hard drive replacement?

It is a standard 2.5" IDE laptop drive. You have to dis-assemble to mother board. Easy to do if you are comfortable with internals. You have to remove a million screws to get case apart. All visible on bottom, also internal pc card next to memory card has 2 screws. Don't forget back side hinge screws and edge screws on upper part of lower shell visible in back and when dvd/cd is pulled (2 bottom screws hold player in. The shell come apart easily little force no tricky pressure or lock taps. Where it hinges on back top side next to LCD screen lift gently straight up this is where it is most resistant. A few ribbon cables and 2 wire cables to disconnect. After lower case top is off a few screws holding mother board (arrows) needs to be removed to lift motherboard. Drive is connected to mother board by ribbon cable lift pry gently up to release it. Drive is held in by 4 screws. Good luck. If you do not want to do this just get a 2.5" usb drive. You can buy the drives and external case or by already made ones e.g. WD passport.

BTW I am looking for an actius mp-30 casing, mine has damage.

If you have any questions post to contact me

I have misplaced the recovery

You do not need the CD to recover this laptop.

From the User Manual:

1. Turn on your computer. When the message <F2> to enter System Configuration
Utility appears on the bottom left of the screen, press F2. Then, the Setup Utility
will open.
2. In the Exit menu, select Load Setup Defaults; then, press Enter twice.
3. In the Exit menu, confirm Exit Saving Changes is highlighted and press Enter
twice.
4. The system will restart. When the message Press F10 to Recover appears on the
screen, press F10.
5. Read the message on the screen, and select the way to recover your system; then,
press Enter. If you selected Formats hard disk and creates new partition, go to
the next step. Otherwise, go to Step 10.
6. Select the volume of C: drive and press Enter.
7. Read the message and select Continue; then, press Enter. The formatting and reinstallation
will start.
Although the pointer may be shown on the screen, never touch the
keyboard or the mouse during recovery except when the message prompts
you to. If you touch them, the re-installation will be canceled.
8. When the re-installation process is completed, the system will restart
automatically.
9. Set up Windows XP by following the on-screen instructions. When you complete
the Windows setup, make sure to set date and time.

If you need help understanding these instructions, feel free to ask.

Sharp Actius A250 PC: Can the screen be replaced?

I'm a laptop technician and this is a very common fault. It sounds like the backlight or invertor for the laptop screen has failed.

The easy way to check this is to plug the laptop into a normal PC monitor (if you can) via the monitor out port on the laptop - you may have to press Ctrl + F5 to get a display on the PC screen. If you can get the laptop to show an image on the PC screen then the main laptop itself is fine, and the problem is almost certainly a failed invertor or backlight.

Assuming you *could* see an image on the PC screen, you should then press Ctrl + F5 so that you *can't* see an image on the PC screen any more (this is very important). Next unplug the laptop from the PC monitor (if you did the above) and look VERY closely at the laptop screen. You will hopefully *just* make out a very, very feint and very dark image on the laptop screen. Bear in mind that you may need to re-boot the laptop to get a moving image that you can detect (like the Windows boot up screen for example). If you *can* see a very, very dark and feint image on the screen then the backlight has failed. If the screen is plain bright white or there is no image then the invertor has gone.

The invertor is a smaller circuit board that sits in the screen housing, the backlight is a very thin "flourescent" kind of tube light that is built into the screen itself. The invertor can be removed and replaced pretty easily by most competent people without much trouble (takes maybe 30-45 minutes to do). The backlight on the other hand is very hard to remove without damaging the screen itself and should only be attempted by a specialist laptop repair company.

I hope this helps.

USB Ports on AL27 only work with printer and external hard drive.

I fixed the problem by going to "Device Manager," then to the "Universal Bus". Under "Universal Bus" are a list of the individual USB ports. You have to delete each one individually. When you delete each one, a window opens up which gives you various headers; select "drivers" and hit "uninstall". When you hit "uninstall", windows will ask if you want to proceed. Select "Yes". You'll then get a "warning" that the computer may not work correctly if do this procedure. You want to proceed with the deletion of each Universal Bus port. Once you've removed the Universal Bus ports, then reboot windows. Windows will detect the individual Bus ports and find new drivers for them. Once the drivers are installed (automatically by Windows), the USB ports will be operational.
