This laptop is ancient! It's about 20 years old if it's Pentium 4 256 memory was when laptops came out ! Probably running on Windows 98 or XP !

There may be other screws holding the top and bottom of the laptop together. Sometimes under the keyboard, so you may need to take the keyboard out to see the screw(s).

This sounds like the battery on the CMOS that keeps the configuration data intact has died.

The D drive is a partition on the factory original hard drive When you installed XP from a cd, it may have changed the partition to make it one large drive and if that is the case then anything on the D drive is gone as is the designation for the D drive. There is no way to get in back without ordering the recovery disk from the manufacturer and if it is an old operating system like XP, you are out of luck

Try booting into safemode using f8 at startup. Then see how much space you have on the hard disk

Check jumpers on your ROM.

To communicate through wireless LAN, the integrated antennas must be activated. You can enable/disable the antennas by pressing the Fn+F1 key combination.
