My garage door opener will start to close then stop and go back to the open position. If I put pressure on the door as it is closing sometimes it will close all the way and sometimes it will return to the open position. Can you help me. Thanks [email protected]

Use the emergency release handle to release the door. Run the opener to the open position until it stops. Close the door until it stops. Now re engage the the door.

Check all the electrical connections inside the unit. If it is intermittent it may be hard to pin down. Other than that you will probably have to add it to the list of Yet Another Thing. Depending on how often it is used 11 years can be past the life expectancy.

Have you checked the tracks on both sides? If the door closes when you hold the wall button there may be an obstruction or a bad guide. This could exert enough resistance to make it stop and reverse. Holding the wall button allows it to keep going past the problem.

There are adjustments on the unit itself that control the distance door travels to close as well as the force it uses to close. The info and location of controls is indicated in the manual that came with your unit.

Make sure to clean off the lens so there's nothing blocking signal and make sure that theres no obstructions in the way of the photo cells before and during cycle. make sure that you have power going to them by having the Amber or red light displayed at all times and make sure that the green light is present for alignment. If it works for a couple of cycles and then goes back to being non active, make sure that the tracks or the surface that sensors are mounted to are not moving as door is in operation therefore they will move out of alignment during or after a cycle and will not allowed to operate! Make sure that none of the wires going to the cells are punctured through by any Staples! sometimes it could happen and when you move the cell around it could relocate from the staple and go back to norm, then after cycle it could short out from vibration which will send wire back to hitting stable! If none of these are helpful and you want a quick fix go down to your local home improvement store and buy a set of photo cell/safety cells and wire them up as diagram displays which is very simple and easy.

The Wayne Dalton Doormaster design is a mess. I've had two of them in my house for 10 years, with numerous repeat problems. What you are experiencing is a need to recalibrate the door, but the underlying cause is that a linear potentiometer becomes non-linear, and the calibration drifts. Once this starts happening, it will continue to be a problem until you buy a new potentiometer, or clean the one you have. If you are handy, it isn't too hard to do. Two other Doormaster problems are when the DC electric motor carbon brushes wear sand clog up the commutator, causing the motor not to run. Another problem can be corrosion on the back of the circuit board that causes erratic operation, but can be fixed by scraping the corrosion off the board. If anyone still is having any of these problems, post here and I'll do a detailed writeup on these fixes. Terry

Open case, & see if white shavings from gear stripped out are laying on bottom of case.

u might need to change Lightning/Power Surge Suppressor the comes inside of ur motor connected between the black and white cables of the power input of ur motor

How do we reprogram the remote?

Does your wall switch have a lock feature? By pressing the lock button, the remote control is disabled. A flashing light indicates this feature has been activated.

To deactivate, press and hold the lock button for 2 seconds. The flashing should stop and your remote should work again.

It isn't your door opener it is your door. Check the springs and the rollers.

UNPLUG RHE UNIT WAIT ABOUT 5 MIN. AND PLUG IT BACK IN.

THIS RESETS THE SEQUENCER.

SOMETIMES IT WILL SOLVE THE PROBLEM.

It is not closing completely because either something is in the way of the door closing properly or the mechanism controlling the safety feature is malfunctioning.

Make sure you have the model number off your motor unit and call 800-528-5880. This is technical support for Chamberlain Mfg. Co. who makes the Liftmaster. If your unit is as new as you make it sound I cannot imagine the door company not supporting you. It will also help if you can be near your opener when you call.

Can you hook up sensors to an older craftsman garage door that never had them?

Denise, This could be a dangerous job for some one with no knowledge, doors are heavy,cable is under a lot of load from torsion springs. You may have to call a garage door tech, this is not a major fix if you have the knowledge and tools, the Tech. can also diagnose what caused/allowed cable to do this and correct the fault, so it will not happen again.
