Resetting a keypad for a garage door opener.
simple , i was a sears installer for 10 years installing garage door openers so your in luck , just locate the smart button on the machine ,it would be on the back or if your looking from the back at the back ,it could also be on the right side depending on if the machine is a sideways mounted machine or frontmount, after locating this button which maybe green/orange /or purple in color also depending on your model ,the newest sears machines are purple buttons ,and 5 years ago they were orange and the older ones would be green ,...ok so after you,ve located it just push it once and you will see a solid yellow indicator light come on , now go over to the keypad and put your 4 digit personal code in after that press the enter button AND HOLD IT for around 3 seconds , at that time you will see the lightbulbs on the machine go off and then click back on , and THAT,S IT! plain and simple , now go proramm your remote! hope i was of help to you , and if i was leave me a nice rating Sincerely Glenn mayer
Key pad will not work to close after it just opened the door
I can't tell if you're question is accurate, are you saying that the key pad will only open the door and never closes it or that it will only do one direction then you have to use the remote? If you're saying the keypad will not close the door at all, that may be a safety issue since closing doors can potentially damage property or worse, if your saying the remote works both ways then you probably need to reset your opener and keypad. Cut the power to the opener, leave it disconnected for five minutes. Reconnect and try keypad again. If this doesn't resolve the problem them you may have a bad circuit and will have to call a pro.
Motor won't stop running even though end switch is closed. Chain off sprocket for testing.
The so called experts are really not experts at all and have all diagnosed this problem incorrectly! The problem with your motor is that the Limit switch has either one of the contacts that shut the motor off ..came off the plastic housing ! These adjustable nylon screws clip to the housing that they are secured to sometimes the nylon adjusting screw pops off or it,s copper stop contact has popped off ! This contact or screw whichever has popped off can be snapped back on and in order to do this you would have to take the cover off , Note if your machine is older then 4-5 years it will have these adjustment screws that are called up limit and down limit adjustments on the side of the steel outer casing , anything newer then that has automatic sensing adjustments and will not have these turn screws for manual adjustment !Once the case is removed inspect the limit switch for eithe the contact coming off or the screw itself , simply snap it back in place and with the cover off do your adjustment for the limit of how high or low you want your door to be set at , This adjustment can also be found in the owners manual as well as on line ! Hope this helps you and yes this is the correct diagnosis for your problem , a stripped gear would have absolutely nothing to do with a motor that constantly runs since the sensor that makes contact with the machine when it hits it,s limit automatically stops the motor and since yours keeps running your problem is 100% positive with the limit switch!

I had the same problem and I found an old Liftmaster keypad instruction handbook. Check out the picture below and follow what it says. It worked for me!

The garage key pad has stopped working
The most common problem for your situation is that the battery in your wallmounted key pad needs to be replaced. unscrew the little screw on the face of the device, remove the battery and replace it with one just like it. Radio shack usually has these batteries
Main light on will not come on when door is opened/closed
For some reason, the bulbs I tested that worked somehow didn't work correctly when inserted into the door opener. We opened another set of bulbs we purchased and what do you know, the light now works. I don't fully understand as the other bulbs did work just not in the garage door opener.
Garage Door won't close
It sounds like the door sensors have been bumped or somehow gotten misaligned. Tweak them until the light on each one is lit and not blinking. They must be pointed at one another.
My garage door sometimes gets stuck and then goes
Don't tighten the chain. It sounds like you have either a broken door spring or the drive gear in the motor unit is going bad. Release the opener from the door and operate it by hand. It should be easy enough to raise that your wife can do it with no problems and it should stay put when released about waist to shoulder high.
Garage door opener won't open garage door
did you use the manual release to unlatch the door from the opener? You may have a problem with the door binding and opening it manually will confirm that. You may also have misaligned the sensors at the base of the door so check that too.

If the chain is loose I would definitely tighten it up to remove the sloppiness of the drive. That will in turn help you to accurately find the sweet spot that is currently eluding you. And you have to work fast because you do not want to overheat the motor.
I forgot the
