My Sceptre TV changes source by it self and now every button I press changes the source.
It's most likely the remote. Try opening the remote (I know it's hard, and could be hard to put back together). The underside of the rubber buttons will need to be cleaned with rubbing alcohol and a Q- tip. You will notice some of the black carbon rub off onto the Q-tip (That's Okay). Then dip the Q-tip in alcohol and run it over the gold or silver areas that the rubber buttons touch to change the channels (and all the other places they touch too)Then wipe all those areas dry with another Q-tip, until no more carbon black comes off, and there is no moisture in the button side of the board. It was probably caused by an oil leak from one or more of the buttons. then reassemble OR try a cheap universal remote.

We have a 2 yr old scepter tv were getting sound but no picture. Is there a factory reset we can try or is it trash?
There are two methods to reset TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. What are the codes for a dish remote for a sceptre tv
Set-up (Programming) procedure is too much to type in here, and is not practical and it will differ brand-to-brand remote controls. If you wish to get more; check the sites linked here. The site has set-up code list & set-up procedure to many popular brand remote controls. The site has general set-up codes to check with TVs and other devices are given, in the order of the 'device's brand name list' in alphabetical order. Set-up code list to many brand remote controls also is given. Pull up older posts. Search the sites by type in the brand name to your device in its search box at the top right part of the display window. It will help you to find the document easily.

Programming Notes
• If your device does not respond to the remote after trying all codes listed or your brand is not listed in the code list, use the Auto Code Search method to program your remote.
• Sometimes the first code that "works" with your device may operate only a few functions of your device. There may be another code in the code list that performs more functions. Try other codes from the code list for more functionality.
This is a trial and error procedure; and quiet time consuming. You might have to check different codes said for your device...
