Rename copy to "test.mpg" try to play that file .you may want to download free vlc player.it plays almost everything.

Could be the iris blades in the lens are not closing to control exposure - can you look into the lens while taking a 'selfie', and see if they close ? If not, then it needs a service, I'm afraid.
