My scale salter model 6300 is reading err when I turn it on. I have removed the battery, tried turning it back on after replacing the battery and it still reads err.
Try leaving the battery disconnected for at least 30 seconds to give it time to reset itself.

When we move the scale and the 0's are supposed to appear and disappear before you can actually step on the scale, we get a false number and then a symbol that looks like a beginning open bracket.
When it is acting different from what you used to see, you could try replacing the battery.
