Its not unheard of depending on the age of the watch (you say you purchased it 16 months ago but it could be a 15 year old watch.) If it was a new Rolex watch you have a 5 year warranty, so it should cost you nothing. If it was a pre-owned Rolex you should have received a warranty from your jeweler, most of those are 2 years.
