There are a few things you can try to fix your Rival Shot Of Steam Iron ES280 if the indicator light is not coming on and it is not heating up:

Tap or Distilled Candice, Distilled water preferred, but yes you can use Tap water. You may just have to run a mixture of vinegar and water to clean deposits every 3 to 6 months through the iron which may have to be done even if you use distilled water. If you google 'Security Bit Set' you should be able to find a set of screwdriver bits that will contain one to open the iron. (I think the forked bit in question is called a 'spanner' bit.) I've just ordered a set from Amazon.co.uk which you can find by searching for 'Screwdriver Bits Torx / PZ / PH / Flat Hex Spline Extra long Security 50pc AT822' at their website.
