That would be the timer record indicator. It has either a setting that has not completed (due to a transmission error) or you have set something by mistake to record something on a daily basis and is waiting to be shut down or have something to record on inserted. Clearing the record screen should clear this. If it doesn't then is a system fault. If this uses a tape, the mode switch will be faulty.

Hit the menu key and select the recording options. Select the option to view timer recordings and select each one to clear it. Follow the onscreen instructions or when on a recording hit the clear/delete button on the remote.

This might be something to do with any widescreen settings on either the VCR or TV.

First make certain that somebody (perhaps a child) hasn't been playing with the controls or altering the settings. If they are OK, something might have snapped inside. Video recorders generate a great deal of heat when running this can cause all sorts of faults.

They don't have a phone number since the company went bankrupt.

Only for sure way is to take the machine apart. This is not near as difficult as it seems. Benefit to this is you will find out what caused the jam.

Is this really worth a major repair?

Some problem with the mechanism---is problem (not clear) with DVD unit or VCR unit(indicated here its a combo).The VCR would be easier than the DVD with this issue.

fixing this kind of problem is not an easy task this includes mechanical timing of loading mechanism and is complicated task .I would suggest to better bring it to a service center or ask the help of a skilled technician.to be honest to you this is not a DIY issue this requires a bench and actual repair.It is very difficult to give instruction just by chat .It has to be actual observation of the mechanical system movement to identify which gears to be adjust and have it in correct timing...good luck!and thank you for using fixya...

The new remote is easy. An substitute remote is available here: http://www.remotes.com/remotes/servlet/rs?a=Search&o=c&uid=0&m=GV4060&uuid=12918561936090 . This should match most of the features of the original.

For the ghosting, the first thing to check is the cables. Try new A/V cables and make sure that they are well seated in both sets of jacks. If changing the cables doesn't help, I suspect that the connection between the video jack and the input board has a problem. This may be correctable if you can solder and are willing to open up the unit. You would need to remove the old solder and then resolder the joint. Alternatively, see if the input board is available from somewhere and just replace it. You need to read the part number off the board and google that part. (My usual source doesn't list this device but the parts are often shared.)

(This assumes the Sony DVD/VCR unit is compatible with providing a signal to a second VCR. Some are not and you may have gotten lucky with the previous Go Video unit.)

(a second possibility for the ghosting is that the video board has a problem but that is unlikely. Since you aren't reporting a problem with video playing in the Rio unit.)

Locate any screws that hold the top in place. carefully slide the top off. find the loading motor. it should have a worm gear on it. turn the gear and after a while the tape should come out. is this only in one vcr in the duel deck? please reply if you can fix it. if that did not work, just let me know. good luck!

I have had the same problem. There is a rubber ban that acts as a drive belt to open and close the disc loader. i took the cover off and then the disc loader cover off to expose the bubber ban. Then i replaced it using two rubber bans from my daughter's braces and reassembled. Works great again.
