How do I bypass the blades on a Riccar RL-343DR serger so I can hem?
Perhaps the manual would be helpful:
RICCAR RL343DR Instruction Book Page 14It appears that you need to install a hemming foot.=================It is not easy but it is very similar to stitching a blind hem on a sewing machine--except you will also have to be careful that the knives do not cut the fabric. It can be done, but some practice would be good before trying it on a garment. The skill is stitching on the very edge of the fabric without getting it into the knives. If you were to disable the cutting knives on your serger, you could very easily break a looper or knock the machine out of time because the knives prevent the fabric from extending into the looper action. Here are some videos (more available online):https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdwlJmfm...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCMIXOGH...A coverstitch machine would stitch a hem such as what you want, but that's because it does not trim the fabric--it basically is like using a twin needle in a sewing machine.
Hello, I have a Riccar
The belt should be replaced at least once per year. They lose elasticity and will slip when vacuuming. The brush strips in the brush roll can be replaced. It is well worth having it serviced by a Riccar dealer,. The 8000 series can last many years but any long lasting vacuum will require routine maintenance.
