code p 0700 refers to transmission control system/ mil---malfunction===causes---wiring ---TCM
I don't have the code for p1684 but i'm thinking that it will be associated with the TCM and reverse solenoid or servo
The color indicates overheating or burnt oil unless the oil in use is a light brown oil to start with as most atf 4 are cherry red
The metal flecks are the worry as that is metal from either a bearing, valve body, torque converter or clutch/band material and that could contribute to the color of the oil
I don't normally advise serious consideration of a transmission rebuild but from your statement I advise that you seek a proper diagnosis of the problems from an accredited automatic specialist shop ( not your local mechanic)
IT will require the pan off so that parts can be inspected and get a full explanation of what is found and quotes to fix

Question posted under Reliance tank-type gas water heater.Look at label on side of unit and add comment with brand, model and type heater, because the answer depends on which brand and type water heater you have.Information below is for Reliance tank-type.First of all, you need to clean the air intake located on bottom of unit. The fact that the pilot will light indicates that you are getting gas, but the gas control might be bad, or the unit suffered FV failure from overheated combustion chamber and might require part replacement. To get a good gauge of situation, clean the air intake first, and then add a comment.Look at image for inspecting air intake. Then use feather duster and/or compressed air to clean flame trap, arrestor screen (air intake)http://waterheatertimer.org/images/Flame-trap-inspection.jpgADD A COMMENT with more detail.Additional resources:http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-gas-water-heater.htmlhttp://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-replace-thermocouple.html If you need further help, I’m available over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/gene_9f0ef4df2f9897e7
there is a small screw in the control panel that sets the thermostat and by turning it anti clockwise you can lower the temperature of the water
all to the right is around boiling and all to the left is around 55 degrees c
thee is an automatic mixer that you can have fitted to the hot water outlet that is mixed with tap water to control the temperature to prevent scalding accidents
it is preset to a temperature at the tap of around 75 degrees C
Also ....perform a web search for the make and model on the internet, just endter the derails. Add the word spares as well and your lovation....that should throw up the stockists, should there be any, who are located close to your home.
GOOD LUCK..hope you find it!!
there is a thermostat control at the heater element that is adjustable
The temperature range is from around 55c to around 90c and if the water is almost boiling then I would suspect that that thermostat is not operating correctly
have an accredited electrician or plumber with electrical qualifications check it out.
