Found this info on another site a while back and saved it. Hope it helps! "the two lines across the top in your scope represents 18" which is the standard size for the deer's body from the top of his back to the bottom of his stomach. If you see a deer feeding in a field and you want to know how for he is, you turn your power up till the top of the deer and his stomach fit between the two lines at the top in your scope. You then
look at the scale at the bottom of your scope and it will tell you how far he is in yards."

I found this info posted on another site. I saved it and will re-post for you. I am from East Texas and went on a hunt in West Texas several years back and everything out there looked like a 1,000 yards to me.
I saw these deer going around the end of a draw, and like I said it looked like they were out of range. I put the scope on the bigest and it said 250 yards, using it like descrided
above. I fired, killed the deer and when I steped it off it was 247 steps. I hope this answers your question."

And now I know I don't have that one, but,,,, My local ace hardware has a ton of ancient bases and rings in a draw, I can go through them, also, did you try gunparts.com? in order to get basics you need to know how to run the optic, i suggest you download this and read it, and start practicing. or find the users manual on your scope to figure how to work your elevation, windage, and rectify paralax.

Is it bent or is it a dent? If its a dent no biggy, it should work ok, may even put a good mount over the dent and tighten it to take it out. If bent it may still work good enough to hunt with and you will not fear it getting bent again. You will loose a bit of Viewing area at far distances, and the cross hairs may seem out of center, with dark area to the bent side but should still work. 

Problem solved. Redfield had all the size information I needed and mounting the base was a breeze.

I own a Redfield spotting scope the model year is between the 70's to 80's and I need to find a manual for it. But I was Wondering if you could answer a question there is a crossair, then there is another one right above that, then there is a loop on the bottom right hand corner. There is also a yard marker that starts at 600 and goes down to 100. Do you know what it is and how to use it or what the purpose of it is if you could help me that would be great.
