I think that google could have video's about what to do and how to fix your pro 508 squelch from Radio Shack.

I don't know, maybe it is faulty or maybe it is telling you what you are trying to measure can't be measured on that range. I suggest you learn more by measuring a few known values to see what happens... I have a Radio Shack multimeter and it was a complete waste of space from day 1 and no better after it had been "repaired" by the Tandy boffins. The readings vary wildly between summer and winter, often only half the display works and sometimes it doesn't work at all until it has been switched on for a while.

As the squelch control is rotary it could be an ordinary potentiometer or it could have a mechanical linkage repeatedly pressing buttons as it is rotated - the latter type tends to feel as though there are "bumps" as it is turned. The latter type does tend to wear. The former type suffers from wear or a dirty track but does tend to work sometimes with persistence. Whether the problem is mechanical or an electronic fault, your need to ask the question indicates it is a problem best sorted by the repair shop...

The scanner has a squelch knob, so it sounds like the squelch switch is broken or full of dirt. To do anything, you must the scanner apart. Put a box out for the parts and you should have a rag to catch the nasty cleaner. One apart, check the easy things, are the wires (two) attached to the squelch switch? Then take the switch out of the housing. There should be a retainer under the knob, unscrew and remove from housing. You will use contact cleaner (BEST!) The contact cleaner is under pressure. Squirt the cleaner in, let it drip out, repeat 3-7x. Wait a couple of minutes or until you know the switch to be dry and plug it all in and test. Still not working? Unplug and repeat. Still not working? I doubt you can buy the part, but try anyway. They are easy to replace and you have it all apart, right?

Sensor has gone bad if new batteries, taking it inside (if freezing cold out) and a reset didn't fix it.
LL.L means temperature is below range, i.e. no signal from sensor.

If you have the model number of the Radio Shack universal remote, that would help tremendously. There are several that were made. If it's the model 15-302, here are the codes to try. It would be helpful for someone to help you if you shared the exact model of the scanner. Most scanners and radios have a squelch knob. Squelch is basically the static you're probably talking about. Again depending on what scanner it is exactly unplugging it may or may not have deleted the programming and settings if it's programmable. If it's not programmable unplugging it definitely did not clear any memory, settings, or programming. I'm guessing it was also moved and someone turned the squelch knob either accidentally or messing with it. Find and turn the squelch knob if it has one until the static goes away and it should start scanning again.
