How did people at the bottom of the social pyramid support those at the top?

Well, look at the pyramid. There are more at the bottom... a lot more less powerful that hat to contribute and pay all to the owners of the land and we're allowed only to survive. In some cases, not even survive, slaves would be worked to ***** in many cases, in some civilizations under the farmers and artisans were thousands more slaves making the bottom of that pyramid wider, allowing for even more riches at the top.

The output voltage give 23 volts

I would check the resistor going to the voltage regulator and see if it either has a bad solder joint, or is shorted.

Protection light flashing and alarm sounding, unit was running and the unit just quit and the flashing light and alarm came on

Will the unit power up without the cb radio? I would suggest a short somewhere in the system if the protection light continues to shine bright.

Re: Pyramid PS-36kx power supply buzzer sounded, red light came on

Hi! I saw your question, and maybe this will help. I also have a Texas Star 100w amp, and this same power supply. Even though the nominal draw for your equipment is way below the rated amp flow of the power supply, when you key up, and the output on the amp is at max, you are drawing the limit of your power supply! Try running this setup at a lower linear output. You don't need the full 100 watts to get out! 60-80 watts is aplenty! You should start at a low output, and slowly increase the output(while keyed up), untill the power supply starts to complain.(buzzer/light). This is what your limit will be. The only other cure, is a MUCH bigger power supply. Unfortunately, I cannot afford a 60-90 amp supply, so this is what I am forced to do to use the one we have. Also, keep your cb's output very low when using the linear amp. These amps are supposed to get a low signal from your radio, or the linear amp is overdriven. (noisy and unstable. Hope this helps you! 73's to you! jimsjinx

Would it possible for you

Hello,

I don't think it is possible. That won't be a good idea. It's a bad idea.

Allowing the not too bright individual is like using the unit as a experiment. I think they cost too much money to be used as an experiment.

Also, situations may arise where the not too bright person won't be able to handle.

In conclusion, my answer is "It is not Possible".

I hope the above is clear. if not, please let me know.

Regards.

Can I use this as a battery charger?

Yes, you can use this as a battery charger, but you would have to manually disconnect the power supply every so often and check the voltage of the battery to see how charged it was. Once the battery was fully charged, you would need to disconnect it, so it would not become damaged by overcharging.

Power supply seems to work fine until it has a

Note: I'm answering your post with the assumption that you plan on using this power supply with a computer. If this is not your intention, please disregard my solution attempt.

You likely already know this, but if you are powering a computer you're going to need a power supply with more wattage. I would recommend nothing less than a 350 watt power supply.

Follow this link to calculate how much power you need to run your computer: http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

If you're not ready to give up on your 270 watt power supply, then remove all PCI/PCI-E devices, USB ports, extra fans, non-boot hard drives, extra DVD/CD drives etc. one at a time until the computer powers up. Anything you can do to reduce the load on the power supply will help.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa.

The current drops when you put a load on it but

Hi jjmn2rcp,
Current is defined as voltage divided by resistance. By adding a load to the amp, you decrease the current. Normally the amp should compensate for this, but if the load is to high, the amp will shut down to prevent damage, which is likely what's happening in your case. The amp is rated for 13.8V DC at 10 amps, so make sure you don't have to much connected to the amp. You can find a manual and schematic for the amp at http://pyramidcaraudio.com/manuals/PS15KX.pdf.
Hope that helps!

The red lightcomes on when i hook up things to it

Usually, this indicates an overload condition. I have a Pyramid 35 amp supply that has no green light but uit does have a red light and an irritating little beeper that the instruction book says is activiated when power draw approaches 90% of rated output. (Why not call it a 30 amp supply if you can't use the full 35???) Enough editorializing. You don't say if the supply actually works, just that the light changes color. If it doesn't work at all, I would start with checking the diode bridge for a blown or leaking diode. If one is bad, it can output enough to drive an LED but fail anything else. If these are good, check the filter capacitor. If this is bad, the hum could concievably confuse the regulator circuit. Next, I would check what ever voltage regulator it has in it. I can't comment on specifics as there are many schemes that can be used. My unit, for example, is like a mouse driving an elephant. It has a small 723 regulator IC, (Aprox. 100ma output), controling 4 large TO-3 pass transistors driven by a 36 volt 40 amp transformer to boil it all down to an adjustable 12 to 15 volts.
The bottom line is without knowing if the unit is puting out or not and not having it in my hand to look at, this is the best I can do. I hope it helps.
Good luck.

Warning light on says refer to manual

you have specialist equipment, i recommend it is sent to a specials for calibration.
i could be that the warning is somehow connetied and calibration will ensure that what you dial is exactly was is being supplied.

also this model most likely has cooling and that may be getting blocked check that any air intakes and filters are clean and clear to ensure good airflow if the device is getting hot it may cause the warning light to go on.

also ensure the lines are not shorting anywhere.

I hope this was helpful.

Sounds like your filter capacitors are bad or weak and some 60hz ripple is getting through. If you have an oscilloscope, check the output to see if there is any ripple voltage.
