Princeton vl1918 monitor blinks repeatedly

The 5vdc for the logic is probably OK (taht is where the power LED gets the power from)
It is either the power issue in the 16~18vdc power supply due to bad caps with domed tops for the inverter circuits, or bad components (transistors, transformer, etc) in the inverter circuits.
See my pictures here: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/Princeton%20VL1918W/
Make sure to replace them in a set.
If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on: Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed PRINCETON monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/ Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

So far I cannot find this model in the list. It is 2004 model and Pirnceton is not supporting it anymore. This is one of the reason I am still using XP since I still have alot of good working hardware but will not work with WIN7.
It will still work but you may not be able to set it to native resolution 1280 x 1024 @60Hz (resolution may not be listed).

We're having the same problem

Unless the problem is in the monitor, more likely the PC video resolution is too high for the monitor to work. Please read here:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r4873371-fixing_out_range_format_not_supported

You need to set your PC video resolution to the native resolution of this VL1919,
Which is 1280 x 1024 @60HZ

Please leave rating if it helps.

Also watch out for the caps to go bad in this monitor also.

Vl1918 it poweres on and shuts off.repeat

Just another voice to say that the solution provided here by others does indeed work.

Had same symptoms: screen comes on for about a second, a metallic popping sound occurs, screen shuts off for about a second, repeat. Problem occurs even if monitor is not plugged into computer (thus isolating it to monitor). Monitor purchased from Costco approximately two years ago.

Found 3 suitable 470uF 35V capacitors at the local Radio Shack for a little over $4 (more pricy than online, but no shipping cost, so it's a wash) Entire repair took less than 30 minutes.

The repair itself is already covered pretty well by others here, so I'll just add some disassembly instructions:

Set the monitor face down on a towel to protect screen. Remove 4 Phillips screws securing base to back of monitor, set base aside. Remove 3 Phillips screws from bottom edge of monitor cover. With flat screwdriver carefully pry along the other 3 edges to disengage the catches (about 3 per edge). Remove back cover. Identify the raised metal shroud containing the power supply module at center. Carefully lift one side of each piece of foil tape to expose connectors (for the short pieces of tape it's easier to remove the side that's laying flat, for the long piece at the top of the monitor, it's easier to remove the side that's vertical on the power module). Disconnect all cables, noting how to replace them later. Remove 4 Phillips screws securing the power module. Remove the power module and set the rest of the monitor aside. Flip the power module over, orient it such that the plastic covering is on the left (done only so that these instructions make sense). Carefully pull up the plastic cover from the right circuit board near the center of the power module, you can leave it attached to the metal shroud at the left side (it is difficult to remove from the metal without damaging it). Gently bend (without crimping) the plastic back and out of the way and remove the 4 Phillips screws securing the left circuit board (the one with the power connector). You will need a small "jeweler's" screwdriver for one of the screws - make note where that screw goes (top right of circuit board, or top center of overall module, when oriented as I did). Slightly tilt the left side of the circuit board up, and slide the circuit board out and to the left, over the bent back plastic, disengaging a connector from the neighboring board.

Then perform repair, and reassemble in reverse order.

Thanks to all who posted the original solution!!

My Princeton 19 inch LCD monitor keeps turning off

bsims77010, Tell me brand name of electrolytic filter capacitors on the large "switch-mode-power-supply / CCFL inverter supply" printed circuit board. Are any of them SWOLLEN on the end that is up ??? You can see typical "failed units if you visit YOUTUBE for video clips that show owners/tech's that replace them with new ones and now have working units again. You must tell me more about this "keeps turning off" thing???? Is unit going to "black screen" only?? Or is it going to "black n blank" screen"??? There is a difference!!! If black only then 5vdc might be ok! If "black n blank then +12vdc & +5vdc sources could be in shut down mode. Do you see screen data with aid of bright flashlight held 1 inch from the "black" screen?? Once you have knowledge of what makes "raw white light" on reverse side of your lcd panel, then you will have clue to how the new screw-in, curlie-Q style CFL light bulbs work and what an "electronic ballast" circuit is. 12fixlouie
