How to switch on flash
On the 5240 similar model you press the right hand navigation button on the back of the camera. It has a flash symbol engraved on it but not very clear on mine. The screen goes blank as if nothing happens but it is charging the flash and with fresh batteries will come back in 5sec or so. Then when you shoot it will flash, and there will be a flash symbol showing on the screen.....Press again to alter to fixed rather than auto flash, and again to turn off.
Retrievin pictures
I suggest creating a backup file. This way, you can retreive files that you have accidentaly deleted by acessing the backup file. Try it. Good luck!
How to fix a camera lens
That depends on what's wrong with it. If the camera is reporting a "lens error" then try these procedures. If one or more of the glass elements are broken then the element(s) will need to be replaced. If the focusing gears are stripped then the gears will need to be replaced.

ALTERNATE WAY TO TRANSFER PHOTOS TO COMPUTER If your photos are stored on the memory card, then remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into an USB memory card reader. Connect this USB memory card reader and memory card into the USB port of your working computer. Your computer will see this as an USB Mass Storage Device or an external storage device; you can then open the folder on the memory card and copy the photos to your computer. Memory card reader is a handy device and is inexpensive. You can copy photos from other cameras and you can also download photos off your memory card to someone else's computer without the need of installing any programs.
