The fuel pressure regulator is mounted on the fuel sender assembly. It is built into the same assembly as the fuel pump.

That sounds very strange. Sounds like you have a flat battery. What is the battery voltage from the positive terminal to a grounded bolt on the engine or chassis? It sounds like you may have parasitic draw where something is draining power when the ignition switch is supposed to be off? Ignition switch wrong type or mis-wired possibly? It is likely to be neither! It was running at the correct temperature before, so all was good, you just has a leak that needed fixing. Your problem is likely cause by air in the system which is preventing coolant circulation.
