I have a Philips DVP620VR DVD Video/VCR Combi. Hasn't been used for some time. Wont allow loading of a cassette.

Electrolytic capacitors, like car batteries, exhaust in time and become blobs of goo. If unused they leak and fail, if overused they wear out or over heat. Replacement of this machine is the only useful outcome. Sorry but fact for a 17 year old disposable machine that is now obsolete.

My Philips flat screen TV remote has to be pressed 6 times before it will turn off. Why?

The batteries could have died in the remote and need to be replaced. Or the remote might be broken and you should buy another remote for your TV or it could be on the wrong settings for the remote.

Transmission difficulty with my Philips Fax machine (PPI 27 1B/05).

I don't know much about faxes but I have used a couple and found nearly all such problems are caused by the recipient machine encountering a problem and closing the transmission line. Standard machines aren't so bad and most problems I have encountered are caused when a desktop computer is used instead of a fax machine - they are often switched off except during office hours for instance...

Philips short distance projector pinout AV cable composite video kurzdistanz...

Hello all, I am going to talk about the sufficiently nice Philips HDP1550 short distance projector (German: Kurzdistanzbeamer), but in this regard it should be identical to this existing HDP1590 product entry. The pinout of the AV audio video composite cable output of these projectors (to be used to connect DVD players etc.) AFAICS is NOT documented in the manual (hmm...), and there is a cable offered by Philips which can be bought as an optional item. However I was able to identify the pinout / connections properly, and a cable I bought does work fully properly on the HDP1550 (i.e. both video output nicely working *and* Left / Right properly assigned). :) Text as printed on the label of the white plastic bag: Model: POPPSTAR Poppstar Audio/Video Kabel 3.5 mm Klinke Stecker auf 3x Cinch AV/TV 4-polig Camcorder Digitalkamera Art-Nr: 1004152 [Product No.] Bar code 4260209263989 [RoHS CE Recycling NOT-TO-Wastebin] INCOMPATIBILITY WARNING: pinout of such AV cables (*from* 4-pin audio jack / phone plug *to* 3-line RCA / cinch connectors) is wildly differing since NOT properly standardized / declared, thus it is important to buy the correct one (or alternatively multiple cheaper cables in order to have some spares for the correct combo). Oftentimes one can only *try* buying the correct one since pinout is not properly declared (or even sometimes reported to still differ between product declaration and item shipped!!). Note that a cable you own which is *incompatible* can still be tested / deployed: by plugging the jack *not completely* into the output (thereby hitting *other* rings and thus re-assigning connections!). That way one is able to figure out any unknown pinout and thus know to buy a correct / matching / compatible cable then. The pinout of the AV cable output of HDP1550 thus is: A widely used terminus technicus of this type of 4-pin jack connectors is "TRRS" ([T]ip - [R]ing - [R]ing - [S]leeve, as seen as the physical design of the audio jack): Connection: Tip - Ring - Ring - Sleeve Signal: R - L - AUX (Video) - GND This pinout AFAICS thus is *almost* equivalent (except for Right / Left being swapped) to the pinout that is specified by the "OMTP" standard, thus cables following OMTP standard can be used (but note that Right [Red] / Left [White] RCA connectors should then obviously be *swapped* with such a cable pinout, to achieve proper assignment). Note about known 4-pin "audio jack" standards: CTIA: L - R - GND - AUX OMTP: L - R - AUX - GND BTW, there are converter cables / adapters available to convert between CTIA and OMTP (e.g. Adaptare GmbH). === begin INCOMPATIBLE cable example === AVK199-150 Bar code 4 040849 502095 T - R - R - S L - AUX - GND - R (i.e., NOT compatible, with neither CTIA nor OMTP!) === end INCOMPATIBLE cable example === That article should now have managed to describe almost everything that there is to describe about such cable types :) HTH & HAND Andreas Mohr (Linux user and developer)
