They will go on, but can be very hard sometimes since its a very tight fit. Two things you can do. Use a vise, if you have one. Use one socket to hold the bottom of the joint, and the other on top to push down the seal. Before doing that put the ball-joint in the freezer overnight, it will shrink the metal a few thousand, just enough to make it easier to get it on. Then place it in position and crank down on the vise, it should clear the lip and stay in place. A light wipe of WD40 on the lip will make it slide on easier, just use a very small amount on your finger.
