That really sound like bad batteries. You could try the new Lithium batteries, however this camera takes a proprietary battery, a CR-V3 - 1,400mAh, 3 volt battery and it is Lithium Ion. I think you are going to have to run the pertinent software in compatibility mode, probably for XP or Windows 7. You could try running the XP driver on an XP machine if you have one collecting dust. That is, if the driver exists in the links at the old posts below. This recorder has been around from at least 2009. Alternatively, you can try the Olympus chat to inquire if a current driver might work on it. I'm under the impression that installation of any driver for the device is a little tricky at the best of times. There is an internal battery or super capacitor that is supposed to hold the settings in the camera for about 24 hours. It could be dead but it should recharge in a couple of days if you leave the big batteries installed. If it wont turn on after that, you will have to send it in for service.

I had a similar issue with an Olympus OM4. It went in for repair but was never resolved. The batteries in my OM1-md last forever! I ended up doing the same remove the batteries after use.
