My camera will not stay in focus
Not sure what could cause the white lines. Are you sure you did put the camera in automatic mode? if it is in any other position, it could be you force it to overexpose. In the manual are several causes, why the camera can have trouble focusing. too little contrast in the subject, is only one of the reasons.
Please check the manual for the settings of the camera.
Battery charger flashing red
Although the manuals nothing says about flashing red light on charger, my best guess is the battery is defect.
Try to remove the battery several times and start the charging again and again. But when after a few attempts the LED starts flashing again, you better buy a new battery. When you don't use the camera for a longer period, make it a habit, to charge the battery every 3 months or so.
Camera keeps opening and closing, orange light comes on
Wow, Not even the manual knows this error. Must be serious. It can mean two things in my mind. The lens is obstructed some how. Inside or outside. Or the battery is not ok. If you can't see anything on the lens barrel outside, please try to charge the battery. The camera will shut down without warning, when the power is low. Be aware the camera won't work as you expect, when a USB cable is attached. Actually you are not allowed to connect the charger, when the camera is still switched on. Look how the charger reacts. See if the battery is charged as before, because if the signal battery full does not appear it could be you have to buy a new battery.
Success.
Can't get photos to upload to computer
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa (

Keeps shutting off
Even if you think you have a very good battery, it won't make it better.
99,9 % of the time when the camera stops working, before you can make a picture the battery does not have enough capacity. You could try to charge the battery again and again. When a battery is new it could happen it only will become to its full strength after a few charge cycles. Older batteries, will age more when you don't use them, and when you forget to charge them regularly.
If you are using AA batteries, read the following part:
Always charge NiMH batteries before using them for the first time, or if they have not been used for a long period. 3 months can be very long for NiMH batteries.
Do not use alkaline batteries unless it is absolutely necessary. In some cases, alkaline batteries may have a shorter service life than NiMH. Alkaline battery performance is limited, especially at low temperatures. The use of NiMH batteries is recommended.
AA manganese (Zinc-Carbon) batteries should not be used.
Once i have taken photo, i can see what i have taken, but if I go to have a look at all the photos, it brings up picture error message
Are you sure your memory card is still functional? Are you sure there is one memory card inside?
This is what I suggest:
If you can't view any picture in the camera, try to rescue the pictures with when it is connected with a USB cable to a computer or with a card reader on your computer. Then make sure your battery is still ok.
Then when the memory card is out of the camera, clean the contacts, by rubbing them with a dry cloth. Place the card back in the camera and do a format of the memory card. Don't do a format, before you have all the pictures from the card on your computer or another save place. Make it a habit to save the pictures you take on a computer and on an external medium. Can be an external drive or a CD or DVD. One backup is most of the time not enough.

Battery charging flashing
When you say the battery has been stored for two years, I hope you removed it from the camera before storing it. Otherwise, the terminals may have corroded and damaged more than the battery. If nothing is corroded have the battery checked. Sitting unused for that length of time may have shortened the battery's lifetime considerably.
