Northgate vt7v71 monitor power led will come on

You have to open uo the set and check for 12vdc feeding the backlight inverter circuits, if you do have 12vdc then the inverter circuits may be bad, also look for bad caps. see example of a couple years old failed monitors: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

I reinstalled xp pro I can't find the sound

Drivers are hard to find for your system, however windows should have those drivers in itself. You may try manually installing Generic drivers.
Or I would advise the following software to check which drivers you need. The free Belarc Advisor can help you determine exactly what the hardware is so that
you can get appropriate drivers assuming Windows does not already have them.

I have a northgate WALAMD200A, the power went down

Unplug it and wait a bit, then retry.
If it fails again:
-an internal fan might be stuck, causing the thing to shut down out of caution
-the BIOS battery might have given up the ghost
-a chipset heatsink might have fallen off and need some care
-the power supply might be toast (swap for a good spare of adequate wattage and retry)
-maybe your videocard just got unseated because of cable buggering, just set it back

Need new on/off switch.

You can easily buy it from the Electronic Components shop. Or u may even restore your old switch. Try putting a drop or 2 of Philips Switch cleaning oil in it. I can get it for u if u like.

Would a Northgate computer bought in 2001 or 2002

I'm not familiar with you machine, but if you have usb ports they are probably on the back of the machine (tower). Check there. If you don't have any, you can pick up a usb 2.0 card pretty inexpensively on eBay or I think at Best Buy and simply open the case and plug it into one of your empty card slots. Software typically comes with the card, or, if you have plug and play, the machine will find the card and set it up.
Good luck.

When i press the power on switck at the front,

No 115 would not blow the power supply it would just provide less power. Look at the motherboard for pins that say CMOS on them. Move the small plastic piece on top of the CLR pins and then count to 30. Once you have move them back and then test the machine.

Computer hardrive

If your old hdd is a SATA drive you can install it as a secondary drive in your new computer. All you would need to do is install the drive, hookup the SATA data cable and power cable, & boot up. You can then move the data you need to your new hdd. If it is an older IDE drive you would need to set the jumpers to slave[sl] or cable select[cs] depending on what your new system requires. Hookup the ide ribbon cable and power cable from your power supply. Good luck & I hope this helps.

Help

If your power cord starts to melt before the fuse blows it means you have *way* too thin power cables. Then the fuse probably blew because of a short to ground due to the melted insulation. This is one of the things that can start car fires.

I use cables of similar thickness as jumper cables to my slightly bigger amp, maybe a little overkill but better safe than sorry.

Good luck!
