Sparks from back of computer

Please don't turn it back on. Unplug your computer from the wall and examine the wall socket for blackened or burned sections. It is likely that dust has caused a short in your computer. Sadly, most times this means that you are going to need a new computer or at the very least, some new parts. Take it to a reputable computer repair shop near you and have them test the power supply and other components to see what is salvageable of your computer. With any luck, your hard drive contents MAY have survived but there is no guarantee.

40drhol can I erase and reuse a good hardrive, I have the recovery cd and the otherboard cd. hanks Rich

"40drhol"? If you are re-installing the OS, when you re-install it will ask if you want to format. If the HDD is not the Primary HDD in your computer. a spare HDD, If the HDD is compatible with your computer interface you can install as a slave/second/primary, depending on the interface/pin outs, or load a different OS on it if you wish and have a Dual-Boot. If it's a second drive in your computer, Open Start Menu, Computer, Select the HDD, just right click and format ,select File System.

Connecting hp photo smart 7350 printer to northgate computer

Hello,You need to install the driver of your printer that works with the operating system of your northgate computer. The driver is in the CD/DVD that came with your printer. After installing everything, you can add RadarSync to your computer to optimize your computer's driver (eg. keeping them updated to avoid from some problems, and running automatic updates so that you can avoid from the headaches of doing the updates manually). I hope this helps. If you need more info, please let me know.Carlo

Wiring diagram for northgate computer

You didn't state the model number, unless that is it in the problem heading, STAX2517C2.IF, this is the Model Number of the Northgate Desktop PC, it is supposed to come with a Foxconn/Winfast K7S741MG-6L motherboard,http://www.ebay.com/itm/STAX2517C2-Winfast-Foxconn-AMD-Motherboard-K7S741MG-6L-/380384605182Click on the photo with SOLD across it. On the next page scroll it down. There is a main view shown, and separate views under it.In the separate views, click on the third one from the Left.http://www.motherboards.org/imageview.html?i=/images/mobot/motherboards/8286.jpgLooks like the Front Panel header on the motherboard, is an 9-pin unit.(Down by the round CMOS battery, black plastic rectangular header, 9-pins.In the photo it is down to the Bottom/left corner )[ The front of your computer is the Front Panel. The area of contact pins on the motherboard, that the main wires from the Front Panel go to, is the Front Panel header.May be an abbreviation silk-screened on the motherboard next to it.F PANEL 1, or FRP1, or FP1 ]Motherboard sitting in your computer case, the Front Panel header is sitting Horizontal, and parallel to the bottom edge of the motherboard. There are two rows of pins.4 across the Top row; 5 across the Bottom row.The best method is to take an LED light with two wires, and touch two contact pins at a time.I would go across the Top row first.Start with the first two pins. Then the second two pins. When you touch the correct two pins, the Power Supply will come on.(So will the computer)You now know that this is the two pins for the Power On switch.Computer running do not touch the two pins again. Now touch two other pins. When the LED light blinks, you know you have the HarDDrive activity LED pins.If the LED stays on you have the Power On LED pins.If the computer restarts you know you have the Restart switch pins. This is what I have that seems to be close, for a Front Panel header pinout for your motherboard.HOWEVER, I would like you to connect the two pins to the Power On switch first. Just those two.If these are correct there is a 99 percent chance the others are too.A) Using an LED light will not harm your motherboard. If the computer isn't running, (Power Supply not on), then you will not be touching any 'live' pins on the motherboard.Just make a brief contact, with the wires to each set of 2 pins. The Power On switch is a Momentary Contact Switch.Pinout I have;Looking at the Front Panel header - Top row;Starting at the Left side, coming across to the Right side;Pins 2, 4, 6, and 8. Blank spot -> No pin.Bottom row;Starting on the Left side, coming across to the Right side;Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9.A) Pins 2 and 4 are for the Power On LED (Light)Pin 2 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.If the PWR ON LED is dim when the computer is on, switch the wires around.B) Pins 6 and 8 are for the Power On switch.C) No pin 10. Blank spot.D) Pins 1 and 3 are for the HarDDrive activity LED (Light)Pin 1 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.If the HDD LED is dim when the harddrive is active, switch the wires around.E) Pins 5 and 7 are for a Reset switch, IF a Reset switch is used.F) Pin 9 is N/C. Not Connected. Probably 5 Volts (DC), and reserved for the factory.Would appreciate hearing back if this pinout worked for your motherboard. Also would appreciate if it did not work, and you found out, how about posting back on that also?A LOT of people would appreciate this information.Regards, joecoolvette

Cant log on

you will have to press F8 to get into safe mode, then select start windows in safe mode. when in safe mode select the administrator account and then log in on that, then go to your user account and either delete the password or delete your account, all saved docs will still be there in an old folder with your account name if you need to delete the account. restart the pc as normal then you should be able to log on without the need for a password.

Monitor's resolution need to be increased,

Hi

You don't say which operating system you are using.

The monitor resolves images across a fixed range of resolutions and resfresh rates.

It is the resolution of the graphics card or graphics adapter that can be changed, not that of the monitor.

Right click on empty space on your desktop > properties > settings.

Left click and hold on the slider and slide to the right in stages.

Each resolution change offers you a test page to accept or reject.

When satisfied Apply > Yes > Ok.

To reset the Refresh Rate:

Properties > settings > Advanced > Refresh Rate.

Then restart your computer.

Be careful not to exceed the resolution/refresh rate range of your monitor (1280 x 1024) / 75.0 Hz because if you do, when you restart the computer, the monitor will be unable to resolve the image and you will get a blank screen and/or an Out Of Range error message.

An out of range problem might only be resolved by using a different monitor to reset the resolution back to within the range of the preferred monitor.

Hope this helps

No Sound on Nothgage I-1

You may have to use the XP drivers . there may not be drivers developed yet for the Windows 7.
The manufacturer is the one who supplies compatible drivers to run with the operating system.

The keyboard on my Northgate netbook is funky.

Sometimes that can be caused by something stuck on the key, or if you've spilled anything on the keyboard and the keys are sticky. Try removing the key with a butter knife (careful not to break the hinge) and checking it out. It also might be worth picking up some compressed air and blowing out the keyboard, it might fix your problem and it's a good thing to do every month or so.

Other than the keys being stuck, I would think either some kind of driver issue or a virus. If you have an antivirus, update it then run as full and complete of a scan as you can, and just let it run overnight. If that doesn't solve the issue, try looking on the manufacturer's website for a driver update.

Just out of curiosity, what program are you using it with? It might be related to that program as well.

As a last thought, it could be a problem with your mouse. Try cleaning off the touchpad really well with alcohol wipes (after turning the computer off). If you can disable/enable the touchpad with a button or something, you can try that as well (or plug in a USB mouse and disable the touchpad to rule that out as a possible problem).

The computer monitor viewing screen

have you made sure the video cable is plugged into the screen and the back of the computer correctly. You could also try a new video cable, because the problem may be that the wires inside the video cable have frayed. If that doesn't fix the problem you could try using a different monitor and see if you can replicate the same problem with a different monitor, if you can, the computer may have a problem with the graphics card. If you can't replicate the problem with a different monitor, it seems as though your northgate innovations monitor has developed an internal fault, if the monitor is within warranty try and get a free repair or get it replaced (if you have the receipt.
