Where is the capabilities button on norstar phone system?

There is no "capabilities" button. There is a "Feature" button, which is that sort-of-satellite circular logo thingy above the hold button. "Capabilities", if you need to access that, is one of the programming sections in the configuration menu.

HOW CAN I TURN UP THE VOLUME ON HANDSET. VOLUME IS SO LOW CALLERS CAN NO HEAR ME

There is no outgoing (microphone) volume control, if it is only your set try the handset from different extension. The microphone element may have been damaged (especially if dropped) and have to be replaced. Replacement handsets are not hard to find. If everyone on your system claims that callers cannot hear them, there are some settings on the central switch (KSU) which might help, but only after ruling out a problem on your particular set.

Remove do not disturb

You need to enter the "Make Set Busy Deactivate Flexible Feature Code" - the "Flexible" part meaning the system administrator can change it, so you'll have to ask. The default appears to be #62.

Where is the Caller ID for Outbound calls programmed?

Have you resolved this yet? If your CO connection is analog, it's done by your telco. If you have a PRI (T1), then it's in your system's configuration.

Basically, you want to disable Forward No Answer to voicemail: Feature ** CONFIG Terminals&Sets enter ext # advance past Line Access to Capabilities go to Fwd No Answer CHANGE softkey to None go to Fwd On Busy CHANGE softkey to None

The phone doesn't have any message capability - it is the central system (KSU) behind it, which can be one of several types. Generally, F981 will get you into the voicemail system, 0000 is the default password, else you will need to know the existing password for that extension, then follow the prompts (8=admin).

When using feature 985 to reset a mail box but there are no soft keys under the display what do I press for yes?

That feature code is documented as Feature 985 Norstar Voice Mail Directory Number which should give you the number, not reset anything. You can hang up (RLS) then dial it. Initializing a mailbox (if that's what you're trying to do) is F981, option 8 (admin).

HOW DO I GET THE CF LIGHT OFF?

First, you've posted this is Nortel Phones, while your model is an NEC - you might have more luck posting in the NEC section. When you do, it would help if you add more detail on which button (sp?) stays lit. If it's Call Forward, a second push should turn it off. If it's Message Waiting, you probably have to access voicemail.

Feature **CONFIG, Teeminals&Sets, enter set #, Telco Features, 1stDisplay, use Change softkey to cycle between Number, Line, Name Rls to exit programming. You need a CI line card in the KSU.

That is generally how Night mode works - alerting you to a call then directing the caller to voicmail night message. You want to change the Forward No Answer setting in that mode; if your system doesn't support that, set FNA in regular (non-Night) for the attendant phone.

How do I change the Admin password on a Norstar from the default?

Using the default password, "Passwords" is the fourth menu entry, and under that, "Programming passwords" is the fourth also. Under that there is "Installer", "Sys Admin", and "Basic" (depending on your KSU model and software version).

You can set up a CCR tree with morning and evening... It will give you full functionality of an open hours menu and a closed menu.
