Nortel Computers & Internet - Answered Questions & Fixed Issues
Nortel IP phones going to server unreachable even when connected
Our company is in the business of setting up equipment and providing advice over the phone. We have hundreds of calls a day, now we use a small VOIP system. But the number of calls is already overwhelming the available pool. We need to look for an alternative.
Change display names
A problem with answering this question is first that the main SYSTEM keeps this info not the handset, so for the 3x8, 6x16, and 8x24 systems you can do the following (PROVIDED, the installer did not change the passwords to access).
Press FEATURE * * 2 6 6 3 4 4
Enter Password: 2 6 6 3 4 4 Display will read: " A. Configuration"
Press: NEXT Display will read: "B. General Admin"
(NEXT is always the button on the right of your lines/extension list, 2nd button down from top.)
4. Press: SHOW Display will read: "1. Sys speed dial" (SHOW is one key up from NEXT)
5. Press: NEXT Display will read: "2. Names"
6. Press the SHOW Display will read: "Set names"
7. Press: SHOW Display will read: "Show set:__"
8. Enter the extension number of which you wish to change the name Display will read: "<##:name>"
9. Press the CHANGE softkey
10. Using the dial pad spell out the name Ex: If you need the letter K press the 5 key twice and then press # to confirm the letter. Continue until the entire first name is spelled. (note: you are limited to 7 characters)
11. Press: NEXT (if you fail to do this step, the name will not be saved!!!)
12. Press the RLS key
I may be mistaken however I think you have to be on a model M7310, T7316, or M7324 phone (there should be at least one usually at the main desk) in order to program I don't think you can directly do it from the T7208.
Hope this helps.
Do not disturb setting
- On the phone press FEATURE button
- press #85
- You should now see message on display Allowing Calls
- Press RELEASE button
- you phone is now back in normal - receiving mode

When a call comes in and I transfer to my boss' extension, incoming calls do not come through, caller states phone keeps on ringing.
Also on that same extension calls do not transfer to voice mail.
- Begin the transfer. With the caller on the line, press the "Transfer" key. The caller will automatically be placed on hold and you will hear a dial tone.
- Connect the caller to the other party. Dial the extension of the party you wish to reach. When you hear the extension ring or after you've announced the caller, complete the transfer by pressing "Transfer" a second time. If the person does not wish to receive the call, press "Release" to disconnect from the dialed extension. Press the key beside the flashing arrow on the LCD indicator where the various lines are displayed to return to the caller.
- Cancel an incomplete transfer. If you make an error when dialing and need to retrieve the caller, simply press the key beside the flashing arrow on the LCD indicator.
- Park an incoming call. Parking a call at a designated extension allows the recipient to answer the call from any phone in the facility. With the caller on the line, press the "Park" key twice. If your system designates a particular extension for parked calls, the caller will be held at that extension. Otherwise, the caller is held at your extension. To specify an extension for a parked call, press "Park," dial the desired extension and press "Park" a second time. Replace the handset.
- Retrieve a parked call. On any system phone, press "Park" and dial the extension on which the call is parked. You will be connected to the caller.
Booting Fail
I assume you have that in a 8300?...
In any case.. try To warm-start (no diagnostic tests are run), press the Reset button for less than 5 seconds. To press the Reset button, insert a small pointed object (for example, an unbent paper clip) into the Reset button hole.
if you need more help. please give us more information!

Why does my nortel T7208 phone say mailbox is full but is not?
Try pressing the Feature key followed by "#65". We've also used this to clear phantom fax messages which Avaya Achillae (formerly Nortel Nancy) notifies via voice prompt when checking VM manually.
If that doesn't work, you may need to delete/re-create the voice mailbox, which should completely reset the VM indicators for that box.
Note: Assuming you're on a BCM system -- if you're testing VM by calling from one extension to another that has a "full" mailbox, calls may be refused or be forwarded to Call Center or Auto Attendant (if either are set up on your system). BUT, calls from outside may still get to VM just fine. I'm told this was by design.
