Nortel Radio Communications - Recent Questions, Troubleshooting & Support

The greeting is from the voice mail not your phone.
Logging In To a Mailbox From Your Own Extension
1 - Feature 981
2 - Pswd: Dial 4-digit password (default is 0000)
Follow prompts to change your greeting. They are: ADMIN, then GREET and then RECORD.

When done hang up or push RLS. I have installed several of these systems.

I managed to find the manual, but it does not say a thing about this. I think your provider has to give you the information, with the incoming call. When he switched that information of, your phone can't display it. Sometimes the providers charge you extra for that service. If, on the same extension, another phone did display the number, perhaps hetre is a way to switch it on, but I could not find it.
The link is to the manual.

Searching the documentation, this is not specified. It is long enough for a first and last name, so I would guess around 20 to 25.
Somebody with this unit could figure it out fairly fast, just by typing text and counting.

Hope this helps.

Nortel IP Phone... | Answered on Feb 19, 2015

This can be complex, and easy, depends on what you can do yourself. If you have an old phone, you could plug it into the socket the provider is offering the service. If you get a dial tone, you know the line to that point is working. If the phone you are using now, is in another room, please do the same there. If you are sure the line is working, the phone has to be tested. Make sure the cable you are using is correct. Make sure the phone you are using is the right one. Don't try to connect a digital phone to an analog line.
These things are the first things in my mind. I write them down in less then 2 minutes and can keep you working and checking for at lease half an hour.

Unplug the phone from both the line and power adapter. Let it set for at least a couple of minutes. You may have activated call forwarding - all accidentally, if that happened the problem will be in the electronic exchange, not the phone. Find out what the "cancel call forwarding" code is for your system....

unplug all the phones in the house, or go out to the NID (network interface device) on the outside and disconnect the "line" from the "network". It should have a standard modular plug. You should be able to plug a regular phone into that jack and see if the line has cleared. Chances are there's a phone in the house that's partially off-hook.

If you set the all line and set restrictions to no restrictions, you are not restricted from making any calls. I don't think it's the phone system requiring this 4 digit code. Are you sure all your lines are set with the same long distance provider. Did the lines in the dial 8 group require a code. (ie some users had the long distance provider set up their lines to need a code entered to charge calls off to different job codes, so they can distribute the charges correctly).
You should now be able to call 9+1+area code+number, with no restrictions.
