The only way to truly know if a shaver works well for you is to use one. Just because someone else says it works well for them, that does not necessarily mean it will work well for you. EVERY model of shaver has many people who like it and many who don't.

There is really only one shaver marketed for Africal Amaerican men. It is made by Wahl and available at shaveroutlet.com. See link below.

http://shaveroutlet.com/shavers/foil-shavers/wahl-bump-free-cordcordless-shaver-p-579.html

I have also seen many African American men use Norelco shavers as well. You will find a large selection of Norelco shavers at shaveroutlet.com also. See link below.

Will not charge.

Batteries need replaced. You will find the correct battery type for model 8883XL at shaveroutlet.com. See link below.

http://shaveroutlet.com/shaver-replacement-parts/shaver-battery-pack-for-most-norelco-more-p-278.html

To replace, you will need to remove the back cover by removing the two screws. You may need to extend the long hair trimmer to get to the second screw. Take off back cover to access inside. You can unsolder the batteries from the circuit board but for easier replacement, it is sometimes suggested that you use a modified installation technique. This is to break the tabs off of the old batteries with small needle nose pliers rather than unsoldering them from the circuit board. This allows the old batteries to be removed but leaves the tabs attached to the circuit board. You can then solder the tabs from the new batteries to the old existing tabs

If you are not able to do this yourself, you can have shaveroutlet.com do it for you. See link below

My battery will not recharge

The battery has finally degraded to the point that it won't hold or pass voltage, so yes it needs to be replaced. Luckily, with a few skills, such as disassembly and soldering, you can remove and reinstall a new, rechargeable battery that should get the razor working like a champ.

Electric Shaver Service stocks most rechargeable replacement batteries for almost all electric shavers made.

Here's a link to the battery page, just find your model and you're ready to go. If you want, you can call and confirm which is the correct replacement battery for your specific model shaver too.

How to replace batteriers in norelco quadra electric shaver

The rechargeable batteries are solder into the circuit board of the electric shaver. You'll have to use a soldering iron to de-solder the terminals/tabs from the PCB (printed circuit board) in order to get them out.

Then you'll need new replacement rechargeable batteries to solder back into the shaver.

You can get teh correct replacement batteries from Electric Shaver Service in Lincoln, Nebraska (if you're in the US or Canada). They even do service and repair work in about a week, if you want to have them fix your shaver for you.

Here's a link to the battery page with your shaver model's rechargeable batteries for about $15.00 (plus s&h)

Razor charged but not running

You didn't specify how old you model is.
Generally I would say, the battery is failed.
You might try taking it to whereever you bought it and politely ask for a replacement. Its also a good idea not to leave these in cars during sub freezing weather.

Cleaning the blades of my Electric razor

The smell that you are noticing is a mixture of decomposing skin particles, skin oil and hair. This is because you are not getting the blades clean enough.
Philips (Norelco) has been introducing all of their shaver with the ability to clean them with water, however, this is not a very good way to clean them because the oil in your skin that collects on the blades does not easily clean out with water. If you must clean with water, make sure the water is as hot as will come out of your faucet. A better way to clean it is with rubbing alcohol because it works better and will help kill germs which may cause smell.
Of course, the best way to clean the shaver heads is to remove them individually and brush them out thoroughly. However, Philips made it impossible to remove the blades on the Arcitec models. The Arcitec modelsare simply designed very poorly for cleaning.

If you are unable to thoroughly clean the heads, you may elect to replace them. It is suggested that they be changed every 12 months. You will find replacement heads at shaveroutlet.com. See link below
