Would guess it is either worn motor brushes or overheating or both. When the brushes are worn, they glaze and get hot and then lose contact. They are a great make and well worth getting repaired and serviced. thank you and welcome to fixya i highly recommend changing it about every 1000 hrs of use but if you only use it for less than 30 minutes a day then it should be changed every 500 hrs or about 5 to 6 months me personally i do it every 4 months

I would say unlikely for a home fix. Getting into vacuums like that is always an issue, but this has the added issue that the cord is auto retractable. The is a small drum with a huge coil spring behind it!
