Niles Audio Players & Recorders - Recent Questions, Troubleshooting & Support
I have a Niles Audio
the sps one is a passive device, the protection circuit is and attempt to protect your amp from very low impedance when you have mulitple speakers attached. The Protection circuit switches in a 2.5 ohm resisitor in series. If you where to connect 4 sets of 4 ohm speakers to this unit and not push in the protection switch you amp would hate you and hopefull just trip the over protection in the amp. When you push in the protection switch you add 2.5 ohms to the circuit. So with four 4 ohm speakers your load would be 3.5 ohms. The device is rated for 100 watts of music power.
The only thing inside the unit is switches and the two resistors mention above. So not much to go wrong with the unit.
If you have shorts, and not open wires it is more than likely related to the user wiring on the back of the. First make sure that all of the wires are trim to size to fit in the small terminals and you do not have any flying leads when they are inserted. Also make sure that each speaker wire polaraity is correct.
If it still does not work then you will have either a open resistor, that is apparent when it does not work and the button is pushed in. or a bad switch, Or you have way overload the unit and burn off a track on the pcb.
Schematic
Niles keeps that information proprietary, they only let dealers have it. IF you disassemble the unit to get to the main board, you can look for a blown fuse, check fuses with the meter, check the outputs from the transformer with the meter, Other than that you are going to need an audio signal generator and oscilloscope and an ESR meter.
Niles ZR-6
I had the same issue as Brian, the Niles ZR8630 stays in initializing mode. At first, the unit would not turn on, so opened it and replaced the fuse, power was restored. But now the unit continually stays in INIT mode.
any body has an answer/solution?
