Try these procedures.

Close the scan program --turn off and unplug the scanner---plug the LS9000 back in and turn it on----reopen the scan program--this is my method on my LS-8000--It does this quite often !

Remove and reconnect the USB printer cable, make sure it is plugged in firmly.Try a different printer cable.Re-install the printer driver.

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use iPhoto or any other photo cataloging program.

You've not said what the message is but I suspect that the software is too old to be used on the macbook if it is running OS X 10.7 (Lion) or if you are running snow leopard, it may be a non-intel version of the software. It may be asking you to instal rosetta which would be on your snow leopard instal disk. If the Nikon website does not have updated software you could try vuescan which according to this page http://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/nikon_coolscan_iv_ed.html does work with the film scanner and you can download a demo version which you can trial before you buy. Get the older 3.X version of Nikon Scan online. It works fine with my 4000ED Firewire on a MBP running OSX 10.6.For some reason my 5000ED USB runs fine on NS 4.0.2 and 10.6 on an older iMac, but 4.0.2 won't run at all on the MBP. Don't know why. Installed, uninstalled and reinstalled many times. No luck.

What are your symptoms? What I mean is, how do you know you are infected with viruses?

Just curious... did you unplug the unit for a period of time, or did you only power it off? I would definitely unplug it for about ten minutes, then plug it back in.
