Poke around the CNET site for all scanner drivers for Mac or Winhttp://download.cnet.com/1770-20_4-0.html?query=nikon+coolscan+iv+ed+software&platformSelect=Windows&tag=srch&searchtype=downloads&filterName=platform%3DWindows&filter=platform%3DWindows
Difference between electrostatic and inkjet
This sounds like a "homework" assignment.
An electrostatic printer puts electrical charges onto a drum.
Then, dry "powder" ink is put onto the drum.
The ink sticks only to the charged points.
A piece of paper is rolled against the drum.
The "fuser" heats the paper, and melts the ink into the paper, permanently "fixing" onto the paper.
An ink-jet printer shoots microscopic drops of wet, heated, ink onto the paper.
The ink dries into the paper.
Windows 7 64 bit drivers
I use the same scanner. I heard Nikon was working on compatibilty with windows 7. They done it for vista but 32bit only. I would recommmend using Silverfast software. They have the comp. drivers for 32 and 64 bit windows 7. But it comes with a someone hefty price. I just looked on there site and its $398.00. It is a good software but pricey.
My Nikon CoolScan 4000 is not working properly.
I had the same problem with coolscan LS 50 ed, but the chromatic dominant was blue instead. What you have to do is to perform a p.o.s.t. procedure: 1) swith off the scanner and unplug it from the PC; 2) switch off the PC; 3) remove the film-holder from the scanner; 4) switch on the scanner; 6) plug it back to the PC; 7) switch on the PC; 8) insert the slide/film holder. It should work now...
My new iMac Snow
Mac will not accept this programming for they have no updated material for this model camera as of now. All I can tell you is to wait until they do from the Nikon company. You can email to Nikon and ask when the will have it available

Hi Good day!!! yes based on what you've said you hear something suspicious in your unit. maybe something wrong with the gears. I'll suggest to contact your local technician to check your unit because it is very risky if you open it on your own.
Thank you for using FixYa
Please accept if my solution helps you
After a disk crash, I
Looks like driver compatibility issue. You should first install the chipset driver first and then try installing nikonscan again. If you can get me the make and model of your chipset, then I can find you a driver.
Nikon Coolscan 9000 not working w Mac Snow Leopard 10.6+
You're not going to be happy with this answer:
Nikon has formally sworn off doing ANY future software updates for their scanners. They stopped at 10.4 (pre-Leopard)

There seem to be a lot of us in the same boat. I have the same issue with my coolscan 5000.
I am not sure if there is firmware involved or not, but I still cannot get my to be recognized by the comp. Will post if I find solution.
I am using a Nikon
try to see if the scanner is present in the device manager and if it is ,,to be installed and not in yellow,,
if a driver for windows wasn't provided it means that the driver is included in the software ..so try to update it and be sure that it is the one suitable for the operation system you use..
Here is the support site where you can check and read all trouble shooting issues that may occur ...
http://www.nikonusa.com/Service-And-Support/index.pagecause the error specifies that it is a hardware related error ..I think that it worth to go to bios of the pc...and activate the feature called optimal factory defaults...and after that save all changes by pressing F10
The thing that I try to underline is that may be a problem with a disabled bus...if it uses a firewire..or another like thi s..and the action will enable all buses if they were disabled by default or ..by other causes..
Hello,
I've and old coolscab III
Hi.
There is no support or driver available for this scanner. The scanner is SCSI and does not need a driver in order to work.Nikon never manufactured or distributed Windows drivers, they discontinued distribution of manual and old controlling software.
Here the minimal support page.To have the scanner working in XP you need to install ASPI driver, then manually install drivers using file NkScnXP.inf, held in hidden folder INF/LS2000/WinXP.
Pretty much the same with Win 7, you may have to use compatibility mode with 7.
You will still need a SCSI card to connect the Centronic 50 Pin cable to scanner and to manage the scanner. This kind of devices may give a lot of headaches with newer systems.
To install files, refer to the discussion below.
