The LS 2000 scanner shows
Hi,
Stepper motor failure, it means just that or it could be the
drive servo, if you can hear it running then it could well
be there is something jammed or the drive belt the drives the sensor has
come adfrift.
All a stepper motor is basically is the thing that drives the spindle
pulley, the rotator is a magnetic disc or drum mounted inside a field
coil, a complete reverse to a normal motor as we all know of... a
armature mounted inside a magnet.
A stepper motor does not use brushes since the magnetic drum does the rotating in a pair of field coils.
If you could get your hands on a broken scanner, need not be the same model
but certainly needs to be the same part numbers of the parts you are
replacing.
Hope this helps!!

Getting true color on slide scans
Make sure you have the emulsion (image) side of the slide towards the scanner sensor. Some scanners have a special setting for film still in slide holders to correct for focus. You may need a photo edit program to help with color and density. I find no difference from 35mm to split 5x7s altho bigger is always better.
Nikon scan was unable to find any active devices
The LS2000 is older than XP and has some fairly tight requirements to work. The recommended SCSI adapter is an Adaptec 2906, and you will probably need to backrev the ASPI layer driver files to version 4.7 (available on adaptec.com site). You may need to boot in Safe Mode to remove the later versions of the ASPI files before you can install the 4.7 files. You will also need to update your Nikon Scan software to version 3.1.2, available online by googling "nikon scan 3.1.2".
Dell laptop wont recognize ls2000 scanner
The LS-2000 is a "legacy" device to XP and the Nikon software. It needs to be connected to a true SCSI bus adapter, and it's actually pretty finicky about which ones will work in XP. Sorry, you won't be able to use this with your laptop.
