Scanner boots up making all

Hi james584,

You can open up the feeder to clear any possible jams , dirt inside
If there is any dirt you can see but can't access it you can try using an air blower to remove it.

Or if the above method does not work then open the device and clean all three squared photo-sensors by ISOPROPANOL or similar solution.

They are located on one side only - about one inch distance between them. When these sensors get greasy , the device malfunctions , so you can clean them and it will solve your problem, It has solve mine as well.

Hope this helps ..:) Remember this for future use as well.

Nikon Scan cannot locate device

Please check the following
1. The data cable that connect the device with your computer.
2. The version of device driver. Update the device driver.
4. Install proper software to communicate with the device. During installation the device should be found automatically by the computer.
5. If the device is not found then check if your computer hardware and /or OS is compatible with Nikon Cool Scan.

I have a nikon coolscan

Hi, well if you have used Vuescan a "driverless" program, then unfortunately the unit may have a damaged interface? As this software will/should work without any drivers being installed, as it works as we say "Natively".
However in saying this please ensure you have the latest drivers installed, download from the manufacturers website to be sure.
You did not indicate what operating system you were using, if using Win 7 64 bit, or any 64 bit OS, ensure that the drivers again are installed correctly, installed and setup as Administrator, and you may have to set to OFF, the Driver Signature Check at boot up, to set & check, press F8, at boot up, and select from the bottom of the list, this will ensure that the driver is definitely loaded at boot time.
Always try, install and use, any suspect equipment on another PC, this will "Prove" where the fault lays.
Adapters can always a problem, if possible try WITHOUT any adapters at all. ie: Try on, another or even perhaps, a friends PC that has a Firewire port built in just to prove if the device is actually functioning.

After not using my Nikon

Hello sir!

I would advise you to reinstall the software of Nikon Super Coolscan 5000 in your PC.

First of all, uninstall previous driver before installing a new one. And make sure, the scanner is disconnected from your PC before installation. You will connect the scanner via usb only when your system prompted you to connect it.

After a few years of not using it, you need first to check if the usb cable is still working good and not faulty.

You can also try other usb slot if the one you are using right now is unable to detect the scanner.

My Nikon Super Cool Scan

What you describe is typical of processor instability. This scanner has a powerful custom image processor inside it that is powered from an dedicated power source and it requires a good cooling.
So either the internal power source has aged and is no longer capable of delivering the necessary current or the cooling of the processor is not good enough anymore so it overheats. It has nothing to do with the way you are trying to operate, in both cases it's a hardware fault.
To find out which the scanner must be opened, its interior thoroughly cleaned and the voltage delivered by the power source measured very precisely. You will also have to investigate the status of the other components on the mainboard. All of this requires at least a basic experience with this kind of stuff. If you have never tinkered with electronics before then it's time to take it to a repair shop.
