What does check card protect switch??
Assuming its has an SD or SDHC type memory card, there is a little white switch on the left hand side of the card, make sure its forward towards the gold contacts end, otherwise it is lock protected,
Hope that cure the prob

Sd card
I can think of a few things that might be wrong:
- Is the card write protected? Some SD cards have a small white tab that you can move to one of two locations. This allows you to make the card write protected.
- Has the card been formated in the camera? I could not locate a manual for this camera, but most cameras have the ability to format the memory card.
Lastly, I don't think you'll be able to record video to the card. Most of these camcorders have an SD card only for still images.
Good luck.

Can't take pictures or video
this sounds like it doesn't make sense, and I don't know why it started working ok, but all I did was switch the position on the memory card to ''locked'', put it in the camcorder and of course it told me the card was locked. So I reinstalled it after ''unlocking'' it, and now it seems to work ok. Can't explain why this worked and still don't know what a "Directory Index" is...
