So, I am unable to find information for the New Home 740. However, most machines from the same era thread the same. You might try looking at some videos. There's a website that has a lot of valuable information on dating older machines some even going back to the 1800s. New Home machines were built by Janome. Make sure you have the correct shuttle for your machine. Some shuttles will work in other machines, but my first reaction was that maybe someone might have included the wrong shuttle with that machine. They can look exactly alike. You can buy them on eBay. You will need the model number to order one.
