I am a technician for the company that widely set up these type routers/switches/gateways and the simple problem is that most of these were used during installation by BellSouth which is now technically SBC Doing Business As; AT&T, DBA BellSouth Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama,ETC. follow this link AT Drivers and Downloads and select your model of the Netopia 3000 series you have and click the firmware link. DO NOT RUN THIS FILE. IT IS A .BIN FILE TO BE USED IN THE ROUTER'S UPDATE FIRMWARE SECTION. Go back into the update firmware menu and instead of choosing the automatic or online feature *previously a BellSouth domain now converted to an AT&T ITservices domain which is why it can't find it) choose the browse or select file option and select the .bin file you saved and that should do it.

Hey, the Netopia routers do not have a default username and password. If a password is already set up, you might need to reset the router.

In order to log into the router you need to Telnet into it.
If you are using Windows XP, you can start Telnet from Start>Accessories>Communications>Telnet

if you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, Telnet is not enabled by default. You need to enable it first. You can quickly re-enable Telnet by following these steps:

Start
Control Panel
Programs And Features
Turn Windows features on or off
Check Telnet Client
Hit OK

After that you can start Telnet via Command Prompt. (or the Start menu)

then once you get into the Telnet Console, type in:
192.168.1.1

and the router interface will open up and let you chanfge settings.

Welcome to Fixya. The security can be access on the router settings page. To access the router page you need a working computer that is connected to the router. To access the router page just open a browser then type 192.168.1.254, the Default username is admin and the password is set by the user. You can press the reset button at the back of the router using a pen or paper clip. Just make sure that the router is on so that you can reset it to factory state. You can also refer to the manual below for more information about the network key. Please refer on page 52 of the manual. The preshared key or passphrase is the network key.
