How to connect netgear fs108 to cable modem
leeb.....
switches cannot be connected to the Cable modem....
because NAT will not be enabled in cable modem....so there wont be any DHCP server present in the cable modem....
Nat will be enabled only in DSL modem like AT&T verizon etc....So DHCP server will be present inside DSL modem...that is the reason why switches can be connected only to the DSL modem....
With NAT enabled modem, switch will work as a switch....
With NAT disabled modem, switch will work as a hub....
This is the difference....
Any doubts further ? please clarify with me.... I am ready to help you....

A router between your ISP and the switch will assign addresses to your PC, the printers, whatever you connect.
Or, if just the one computer needs access to the Internet and the printers, you can install/configure a second Ethernet port in the PC, connect it and the printers to the switch, and give them all static IPs in a private address space (e.g., 192.168.1.0/24)
Netgear fs516 default ip address
switches do not normally have ip addresses as they are layer 2 network devices. They work on the MAC address of each network card attached to it to direct the network packets of data to the correct Network card.
Cisco Switches have an IP address but it is a virtual ip address used to remotely log into a Cisco Switch via IP but has nothing to do with the switching function however this is not a cisco switch.
Routers have IP addresses and use them to switch IP addressed packets to other Networks that have Routers connected to Switches.
NetGear FSM7326P reset to factory default
Netgear FSM (and GSM) switches have an RS232 serial console port. Connect to that using Hyperterm, PuTTY, Xterm etc. at 9600-8-N-1, and power up the switch. Early in the boot process, it will give you a choice of normal operation, or the boot menu. Select the boot menu before the time runs out (usually a couple seconds), and one of the options will be to reset the switch configuration, including the password.
As far as I know, there is no way to recover the password and leave the configuration intact.

192.168.1.1
Go to the NetGear device and pull the power plug out, look for the rest pin (the small port) and push a paper clip into the port. Hold it down and reattach the power line. Hold for 10 seconds. This should return the device to Factory specs. Resinsall the software you were provided with and came in the box. Start over and go from there.
Need IP addresses
if you are attempting to network and need ip addresses. that piece of hardware doesn't supply dynamic addresses. you would need to manually program your connected computers and other hardware for communication to occur between them.
